Newbie HELP!! (getting started)
«

I know what I want. I want a box I can connect stuff to. The box already has classic games on it.
I have seen boxes like :
http://www.highway.net.au/arcade-game-boards-kits/combo-boards/game-wizard-arcade-game-board/16386-1.html
but at least some of the members here have BAD things to say about such products....
Failing that, a card I put into a pc that does the same thing.
Is there a "one stop" shop in North America?
I'm sure much of the info I want is here. Somewhere....
Please give me a push in the right direction

Check reply #2 in the
other
thread you started
here
.
Also be sure to observe
rule #5
-- that includes requests/hints/links to ROMs or X-in-1 boards pre-loaded with ROMs.
BTW the product linked in reply#2 in the other thread isn't pre-loaded.

Given that the board I mentioned is pre-loaded, I assumed that such products were legally available. I was not looking for anything that was not legit. As a complete nube, it is clear that there is much I do not know.

No biggie Msloan -- just warning of potential pitfalls that could result in the BYOAC site being sued/shut down for facilitating the sale/distribution of materials in violation of copyright law.
That's why you're not supposed to post links to X-in-1 boards -- they use copyrighted ROMs and an ancient version of MAME which is not allowed for commercial distribution/use.

Go for a PC and load it with all the games that you want. Don't depend on single board solutions that are cheap and will not give a satisfactory result. You will learn from your experience and you will have full control of your setup. Using a used computer can result in a setup that is cheaper than a single board solution.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually agree with you, but time and skill are limiting factors. I do like the barcade, btw!
