1" plywood/mdf

Hey, I'm redoing the top of my Cocktail and I was wondering where you can buy 1" plywood or MDF.  None of the discount chains carry it.

1 inch is usally special order

and is more expensive than laminating 2 pieces of 5/8 together

My local Home Depot has 1" MDF. Do you really need to go that thick? I also say it is cheaper to laminate\glue to pieces together. Then again if you got the money it does save some work with just the one piece! So my advice would be to check your local Home Depot.

The original Pac cocktails had a 1" thick top, plus I bought new clips and t-molding to redo it.  I might just go the 2-5/8 route...my home depot doesn't have this size.

perhaps this is a stupid question...but why wouldn't you glue two 1/2 sheets together to get 1"?

I though plywood thickness was actual size...

You have a point there... Plywood is always not as thick as advertised ???, however MDF is.  I'll take my t-molding down to the lumberyard and make sure I get the right stuff...

I read it.  Just curious is all.  The thickness isn't usually far off when it comes to actual measurements, that I've seen in my limited woodworking skill.

You could always glue pieces of wood around the sides to get you to your correct thickness.  This would save on material and weight.  Just a thought.
