Dual PC set up w/ KVM switch
« on: September 24, 2013, 11:00:07 am »
I'm toying with some new ideas for exsiting cabinets/projects I have.
A ways back I started a project that was to be an all gun game based cabinet.
I have a pair of GunCon2 and still need to complete my Aim Trak install.
I had set up a PC with custom MaLa layout and complete ROM sets, however I refined it to have gun specific lists.
So NES had a Zapper games, SNES Superscope, etc.
The PC set up was not bad to be honest, I even had some PC games like HOTD.

The project stalled due to me not installing the Aim Traks and honestly trying to get "GunCon 2 Mouse" working.
Anyway as I complete my Aim Traks I wanted to add them to my Mario MAME set up, but I thought that perhaps I should take the existing gun PC and toss that in the cabinet as well.
I could refine it, add some of the new tools out like Troubleshooter 2, the borderless fix for model 2, etc etc.

I figured that once I got the PC ready I could use a KVM switch to the existing monitor, iPac, etc would all work.
I could add a seperate power switch to the underside of the control panel. This way I make use of exisiting inventory and kinda salvage a PC that was hours of work to set up.

Thoughts ?

Surprised no input on this.
I thought this was a good idea.
In some ways I'd say sure, it doesn't make sense......why have 2 PC's for one project ?
But again in my situation the PC is sitting not used in a closet.
It is configured and ready to go.
I put many hours into that set up, perhaps 15 or so and it looks good!
I don't like change and don't want to modify my Mario project.

I thought this makes sense and some of you guys would find it to be a good idea.

I'd say go for it. you have the added advantage of storage redundancy...you could network the two PC's
