Question regarding MaLa snaps and filenames...
« on: August 24, 2013, 01:33:28 am »
Does anyone know what field/attribute MaLa uses for PC executables to base snap/image association on?

I have 4 PC games, (call them 1, 2, 3, and 4) on my MAME cab. MaLa doesn't appeare to associate the actual filenames to snap images (even when spelled exactly the same), but rather uses the "Description" field of an executable to base it's association. Even that though has been hit or miss. For example, filename "1.exe" appears in the game list as something totally different. It *IS* however located in the description if you right-click > properties > general tab on the file. This only works for three of the games though. The fourth doesnt associate regardless of which field I use to base the snap name on.

Any thoughts?

Well, I found a partial fix. Using Resource Hacker, I was able to change the executable version info attributes (the ones that matter at least) and make them all match the snap filename. Still don't know which one MaLa relies on for association, but at least it's a workaround.

I had the same issue and used .bat files instead. It interprets the filename of the batch file rather than the data from a lnk or exe. When there is a space in the path it starts over. I checked my links and only the games that had "Pathtogame\name" worked, not the ones with "Path to game\name". Look in your selection.ini file to see what happens.
