Need help with ATI 3850 and GroovyMAME
« on: September 28, 2013, 04:14:02 am »
Hello Guys,

i recently bought a ATI Radeon 3850, just for trying out GroovyMAME on my CRT-Arcade-Cab.
I downloaded the crt_emudriver_9.3_1.2a_xp32_multisync, but i cant install it :(. on install it says it couldnt find the right hardware or system and exits then. On the website the Catalyst 9.3 Drivers says, that my card is supported:

Catalyst 9.3: ATI Radeon 9500, 9550, 9600, 9700, 9800, X300,
                         X550, X600, X700, X740, X800, X850,
                         X1050, X1200, X1300, X1550, X1600,
                         X1650, X1800, X1900, X1950, HD 2350,
                         HD 2400, HD 2600, HD 2900, HD 3200,
                         HD 3300, HD 3400, HD 3410, HD 3450,
                         HD 3550, HD 3570, HD 3600, HD 3610,
                         HD 3690, HD 3730, HD 3750, HD 3800,
                         HD 3830, HD 3850, HD 3870, HD 4230,
                         HD 4250, HD 4350, HD 4550, HD 4570,
                         HD 4580, HD 4650, HD 4670, HD 4730,
                         HD 4750, HD 4800, HD 4850, HD 4870,
                         HD 4890, etc.

i am clueless for what to do now and any help would be nice here. i am not a total noob, but there are no manuals, how to install GroovyMAME.

my current setup is the following:

15khz Arcade CRT in a Uni-Cab (a Magnum).
P4 3,4Ghz with 2GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 3850
Windows XP 32Bit

Thx in advance, u-man

I think you need to find your hardware ID, post that, and Calamity will put up an adjusted file for you to use...
similar to this thread:

have a look in there, you might even be able to sort it yourself by seeing what Calamity did..

i must say, its way to hard for me to tweak the files needed for the CRT-Emu.

this is what catalyst center says:

Graphics Card Manufacturer   Powered by ATI
Graphics Chipset   ATI Radeon HD 3850 AGP
Device ID   9515
Vendor   1002

Subsystem ID   0028
Subsystem Vendor ID   1787

Graphics Bus Capability   AGP
Maximum Bus Setting   AGP 8X

BIOS Version   010.077.000.000
BIOS Part Number   113-SBRH1G02-10R-00
BIOS Date   2008/03/18

Memory Size   512 MB
Memory Type   DDR3

Core Clock in MHz   720 MHz
Memory Clock in MHz   910 MHz

so still need help here :(

Try now...

Remind that the HD 3xxx family needs to specify a dotclock_min value of 8.0 (both in vmmaker.ini and mame.ini).
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Hello Calamity,

first of all a very big thanks for the files and i can tell they worked :D.
I changed the dotclock_min value to 8.0 in the vmmaker.ini.

VMMaker created 100 different resolutions, so i think its all good till here, but i dont know what to do further.

now to my second problem, i dont know how the GroovyMAME.exe works, but i guess i just put this into a regular MAME install.
Can I use a old mame.ini ? is it enough to just put that line: DotClockMin = 8 into my mame.ini or do i need to do more stuff?

best would be, to get a mame.ini for a arcade_15 setup.
i know it sounds very lame, but i am not sure about what to do.

Again, many thanks Calamity, it was really a relief to see the driver is working  :notworthy:.

Run groovymame from command prompt like this:
groovymame -cc

that will create an ini for you...
in there you will find the option for dotclock which you can change..
You don't HAVE to put groovymame in the normal mame folder, it can be in it's own folder.. but the folder structure will be the same for roms, cfg, hi, etc
