It's legible to me. Of course, I'm working at 1920x1080 at 125% for my browser.

"Gameroom" and the logo jump out, but the contrast between "designs" and the background is too low IMHO.

It becomes readable at about half the usual distance to the screen.

circular gradient on the igloo hallway (not aligned, not light sourced), scrumptious!
whats that?!?!! a 3rd circular gradient on the orange balltop? DO GO ON!
linear gradient on the logo letters, 4 gradients on 1 image ? ballsy!

Flat unshaded faux light sourced grey joystick? how chic!


The concept is clever, the execution is abysmal. I had no idea you could build igloos out of pieces of the sun.

I really like the letter A, I'd suggest cutting the bottom left corner out of all the vowels for consistency .

make the igloo blue, like it was built out of , oh , I dont know.... ice?
ball top and button should be red
use the balltop as the light source and shade appropriately.

I get it - it has more flaws than your grammar and punctuation. No worries here. I have every iteration of the logo under the sun... Three different lighting 'choices', five different colours, etc. etc.

Hi Guys,

Here are a couple of pictures of one of Rick's bartops that I finally completed. Rick was great to work with and answered all my questions before and after purchase.

The bartop plays all 4 way 0-2 buttons games. I might add a 3rd button later on and get a better joystick that will switch 4/8way so I can add more games.

Did you install any lighting for your marquee? (It looks fairly dark, unless it's just not turned on to get a better picture.)

Thanks for the kind words Rick. I'll take some more pics. The marquee doesn't have a light I added the image to the front of the plexiglas. Its the basement lighting that makes it look dull, I'll move it upstairs to get some better pics.

I think the US is a very different climate when it comes to the arcade/coin-op hobby. You see it on shows like American Pickers when they goto talk to guys who were in the business for years. Or even on Pawn Stars guys coming in to pawn old cocktail machines. Just seems the scene is larger.

This seems to be true, and it's unfortunate. I'm subscribed to a number of online YouTube guys - John's Arcade, Arcade Impossible, etc. - and they seem to have a large following down in the U.S.  They go to local arcades, visit friends who have home arcades, visit conventions and trades. You just don't see that up here in Canada.

Do you ever come near Sarnia?
I've built, or helped build 7 MAME machines, and restored about as many actual arcades.

While maybe not the focus, my 2 mame + pinball room is popular at our parties, and my brother-in-law has 3 cabs as well. We've built mame cabs for other friends & family, and refurb arcades for sale in the local community. We have "arcade-stuff" days, where we rehab, assemble, etc, and have a good time.

Sorry no keyboards supplied.  I got a few pinks at the Dollar store for $2 so I use them wherever I hide the keyboard which is only needed when configuring new emulators.

Sounds great coupled with the 10W per channel amplifier.  Speakers were a real plus as they came with the rad grills.  I think the cabinet acts as a fairly good enclosure and do not hear any problem with having L and R in the same box.   Most games are mono anyway so the 2 speakers have no problem.

Shy of an overlay and a plexi cover that I couldn't finish in time, this may be a fitting showpiece for the trade show.



I see now that these balltops are a bit short for mounting under wood without a routed channel, but I think it works for a quick display. Regardless, with a quick t-molding cut and single coat of black satin paint, she doesn't look half bad. (I'm sure when I do up a "pro" model, I'll put the extra effort in with more coats.)

I might have to spend some time in Sketchup today and design one that encorperates my light pipe, P1 controls, and can house a NUC with power supply. It would have under glow, external plugins for HDMI, audio and Power.  Hmmmmmm
