Mala on Arcade Monitor Issues - Mala too large!
« on: June 26, 2013, 09:58:25 am »
Im new to this, I just build a cab, and got it all set up, the games run fine and look great. When Mala loads however, i see the top left corner of the layout.  Im using the layout below

http://malafe.net/index.php?page=layouts&subpage=retrogui

how do I get it to fit my monitor? do I have to make a new one from scratch? I am running at 384 X 224 on an old arcade monitor (Wells Gardner P538)

Any clues how I fix this? Thanks!

That layout you're trying to use is fixed at 640x480.

You need to either rework it to the proper resolution with graphics software or get another suitable one.

Here's info on this from malas site

You'll probably end up resizing the background picture and then resizing the layout with Mala Layout editor.

see the section on creating your own layout

I figured as much ... okay, but I have just noticed some of my games cut off the sides .... mostly fighting games, they dont stretch to fit the whole monitor, any ideas on how to fix that?

I guess Ill get to work on my Mala skin .... lol unless anyone knows of one already made for old school arcade monitors ...

FNHot,
I use a modified RetroGUI Mala interface design on my cabinet.
I'm a graphic designer so I was able to create my own layouts at both 800x600 and 1024x768.
Unfortunately, I don't have them at 384 X 224.
My menu layouts are for arcade emulators only + Future/Visual Pinball. No consoles.

I guess you're looking for extra low resolution layout (384 X 224) but If you'd like to use my layouts, I'd be happy to share.
If you like the colors and design you could always just resize them down using Photoshop or similar software.
See my YouTube video below to get an idea of what the emulator graphic menus look like:

As far as the games being cut off at the edges, have you done anything to set the game resolutions, such as setting one resolution in the mame ini or making INIs for every game.
