I trimmed off about a foot....
« on: November 01, 2003, 08:02:17 pm »
:ogasp - To be clear this is not my sale, I just saw it on ebay.

Description

Tempest video arcade game.  This is a professional grade machine complete with coin collecting mechanism etc.  Works great but there are a couple details;  to fit in the space I had, I trimmed of about a foot from the top of the cabinet. No I dont have the pieces any more.  Also had to remove the back board (simple flat piece of partical board) and it is also gone.   When the machine is first turned on the display size varies a little and it's kind of annoying.  After it warms up for half an hour or so the display is bright, sharp, and rock solid.  I have all the operating and service information books.  Otherwise everything works and it plays great.

Agree with the first part, he'd likely have gotten 3 times that if he'd had left it alone.

Disagree with the second part, I'd happily pay $305 for a working Tempest. I'd definately find another cab to transfer the parts into, but I could live with the hacked up one until I found a replacement.

I agree with you!  I turned down a nice, empty Tempest cab w/ great artwork for $50 simply because I didn't have the room for it at the time.  Still kicking myself for that one.

Anyway, $300 for the monitor and boards would have made the perfect guts for the empty cab.

The winner is no idiot. The monitor alone is approximately a $300 item.  I also figure the big blue cap inside is worth $5.

That means they got the boardset, transformer/power/wiring, monitor bezel, control panel, and coin door for free.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

You guys should deffinately chill out.  I dont think he cared how much money it was worth origionally when he got it, just that he wanted to play it and had to do what he had to do.  I've seen all kinds of classic cabs destroyed, burnt, etc... and that is what makes me mad, this guy just did what he had to do to play HIS game that he OWNED.  Call me what you will, but I live in a small apartment, and if cutting a little off a cab meant the difference between playing it, and not being able to keep it, well then forgive me now.

Everyone can do what ever they want with what they have, it just stings a bit because it would have been easier to pull out a window or door to get the cab in if it were mine.  Too bad for the cab the owner may not have been very handy.  Woulda been a sweet cab, but it was still a good deal I think.  Like someone said, make a new one or wait till you find an empty one, 300 was a great deal.
