zd encoder with mame?
« on: March 17, 2013, 11:04:28 am »
Hi,
I bought a zd encoder about 2 years ago and finally got around to finishing off my project this weekend.
XP is picking up the encoder ok and I can see it in the game controller etc.
It works fine in mamximus arcade but when i pick a game in maximus and it boots to make the controls don't work at all?
The other problem I am having is i cannot scroll through the gamelist one game at a time, only pages at a time.
I think that is to do with the way I set the controls in the maximus preferences.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Sham.

You are probably going to have to provide more info for someone to be able to help you.  What version mame are you using and what OS?  What have you setup your controller mapping to in Setup 1 and Setup 2 for maximus?  What are your player 1 keys set for in MAME?  Have you used the tab key to see what your general mame setup is set to?

Cheers for the reply,
Sorry I am still new to all this (5 years in)
I normally use the ipac so this encoder is new to me.
I am using windows XP, Mame 0137b.
I went into maximus and set my controls using the joystick movements, left for left, right for right etc.
From the mame tab it seems to be set to mame defaults.
Cheers.

You still have up, down, left, right mapped to the keyboard's up, down, left, and right. For MAME, you need to map your controls (go into the menu via tab, like BobA said). The ZD encoder does not output MAME default controls (keyboard key strokes), it's a gamepad device and needs to be mapped in MAME.

sorry, bit clueless :)

So I just go into the mame tab, set the controls and save.
Will it remember them or do they have to be set every time?
Thanks.

If you set the general settings for the player that you want it will set it for all games.   You can also set the buttons on a game per game basis if the buttons differ in a specific game.  All settings are kept.
