here's a weird lock up
« on: March 28, 2013, 05:29:41 pm »
hi guys,

putting the finishing touches on software now that i've switched to mala.  everything is working OK but the weirdest thing started happening.  i updated mess to 64 bit and all of the emu's that i run in mess are working fine.

except atari 5200.  when i'm in mala and switch to 5200, just scrolling thru the game list locks up mala.  all i did was change the emu command line to point to mess64.  it was working fine before but now it just locks up while scrolling game lists (not even starting mess).

i've tried deleting the 5200 from the mala emu list and adding it again but with he same results!  the mala generated debug text file isn't showing me anything out of the ordinary either.

is there some config root file that i can delete within mala to completely 100% scrub the 5200 so i can try adding it again?  i'm guessing something got corrupted...

thanks, T

Mala has a cool backup option so you can save before making changes to your files. You can do that before doing any of the steps below.

I checked my setup and the only files that reference my 5200 are:

{gamelist}.ml? (respective gamelist)
mala.mlt (tree list I no longer use)
mala.mle (other emulator info)

So if you remove the gamelist and mle and rebuild it should work. Or you can try to right-click "Refresh Main Gamelist" or Menu-Game List-Refresh main game list. If it is still bad try to replace the ml? list for 5200 with another one manually to see if something it creates in the list causes it.

oh boy did i screw the pooch.  in trying to fix this, i accidentally deleted some important mala files and lost ALL of my set ups.  i just spent the whole day getting each set up back up and running, wow.

but, i did track the 5200 issue.  seems i had a couple of roms that ended with a bracket [ so as i scrolled thru the list and came to one of those, it would lock up.  weird.

anyways, back up and running, what a crappy day!

Sucks that such a simple item made you cack your ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, huh? I always simply make a copy Mala folder before I do anything. I do not have any emu stuff in that folder, neither.
