Noob question about IPAC and JPAC
« on: December 16, 2012, 08:36:23 pm »
I have an old centipede cabinet thats still fully functional. I'm planning to convert it to a MAME. Since I still don't know all the phraseology 100%, here are a few questions.

1) Is the Jamma the wiring from the game board to the monitor? I have a couple snapped wires on that black harness for some reason, but the track ball seems to work fine regardless.
2) If I buy the JPAC, all I have to do is plug the Jamma into the JPAC board, and a VGA from the PC motherboard output to the JPAC VGA input?
3) If I buy a JPAC, do I have to have a keyboard inside? I'd rather not have one inside if I don't have to.
4) Are there any advantages that IPAC has over JPAC?
5) I currently have the original arcade monitor from 1981 in that thing. I plan to get a bigger one. Which would be better to get for a new monitor (non-LCD).

Centipede is not a jamma board so your cabinet if it has a real centipede board in it is not jamma.

Alex, chances are you could get a game collector to trade you a more suitable game cabinet straight out for your Centipede. Something that takes a bigger monitor, perhaps with a wooden control panel.

Where do you live at? If you are near St. Louis then I could provide something that would be easier to mame.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

What happen to that sf2 dynamo cabinet you were looking at on Craig's list?  That looked perfect for what you wanted to do.

Oh, you are in the SF Bay area, so many game collectors there. You could get someone to deliver something with a bigger monitor in exchange for that Centipede in a heartbeat there.
