Help with new installation
« on: December 04, 2012, 08:49:45 am »
Hi all,
sorry in advance for my english  ;)
I'm actually using in my cab Hyperspin as FE, mame and CRT_emudrivers; the monitor I use is an Hantarex polo 25'' and the video card is probably an ati x800 (I don't remember at the moment). I want now to start a new installation from the start in order to use the new GroovyMame 147u3 with HyperSpin, to take advantage of using the modelines 'on the fly' and to have the games perfectly emulated (Thanks to Calamity!)
Can anyone help me to identify the steps and the configuration I have to use?
  • Installing windows XP 64bit
  • Installing crt_emudriver_9.3_1.2a_x64
  • Installing mame64 and replaced mame64.exe with groovymame, renamed in mame64.exe
  • created the mame.ini from mame64.exe (groovymame) and changed it to reflect my rom path
  • download of VideoModeMaker 1.3c and ArcadeOSD 1.3a
  • Opened vmmaker.ini and told it the location of mame64.exe ( groovymame) and the mame.ini

Now I know that I have to use the preset for my monitor (H9110), but it's not clear for me where to put the option in groovymame and/or VMMaker. I also know that, in order to use HyperSpin, I have to use 'tabla de modos mágica' with these configurations:
ModeTableMethod_XML = 2 (because I use HyperSpin)
ModeTableMethod_Custom = 0
GenerateInis = 0
but I don't understand where to put these configurations.
Can anyone please explain me the configurations in the .ini files I have to change in order to have GroovyMame properly installed with the use of magic modelines?
I'm little bit confused and I prefer to have a clear idea of what to do before starting with the installation.
Thanks

Calamity

Hi X-Fil,

Now I know that I have to use the preset for my monitor (H9110), but it's not clear for me where to put the option in groovymame and/or VMMaker.

You need to open vmmaker.ini and read the instructions inside, it should be self-explanatory. Just edit the values that you need and save the file, then launch vmmaker.exe. There's an option named MonitorType, that's where you have to place the H9110 label.

Same with mame.ini, go to the option 'monitor' and edit it as 'h9110'.

I also know that, in order to use HyperSpin, I have to use 'tabla de modos mágica' with these configurations:
ModeTableMethod_XML = 2 (because I use HyperSpin)
ModeTableMethod_Custom = 0
GenerateInis = 0

Those options go into vmmaker.ini too, just search in the file for them.

That should be enough to create the 'magic' resolution table by running vmmaker.

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thanks a lot Calamity!!
I will do as you explained.
Just another little question...in my actual configuration (XP and crt_emudrivers) I have a little issue that slows AAE, so I cannot use it. I've noticed that is probably an incompatibility with crt_emudrivers. Do you know if  this issue is still present using the latest version of crt_emudrivers and VMMaker and if there is a solution?
Thanks in advance, and thanks for you incredible work!

It's quite difficult that the drivers are making AAE slow, try digging a bit in the problem, which resolution is this emulator supposed to run at? Things like that.
