First Home Build - Vigolix Inspired
« on: March 12, 2015, 12:14:15 pm »
It's my first post here, I just finished restoring a PGA cab to see if I could pull this off.  Sold it to make room for my latest project.

I'm doing a take on a vigolix cab but I wanted it to be a standup arcade with a 32" LCD TV in it.  I've got a few of the cuts done and just waiting on the controls to show up.

Next up is the marquee, plexiglass cover for the TV and of course paint & artwork.

I now have you tagged as pasta and pilsner.

Are you building your first home and your first vigolix?

Anyway... Have fun. Post pictures.  Try not to do too many projects at once.  ;)

Basement development and arcade side project.  Just getting ready for my first inspections!  2nd basement I've done, first crack at woodworking for an arcade.  So far so good, not quite as easy as a deck or framing but fun none the less!

Got a bit more moving along.  Have the tv mounted, some work to create the marquee and some control panel pics.  Haven't wired to PC but got lights working.  Bit more woodwork then painting and assembly.

I've always wondered is there enough weight at the base to counter balance the control panel and the force people put on it when playing on the machine?  This is similar with the Candy cab I think it is or something similar.

Looking forward to your build and the process of it!
Steve

Been awhile since I've posted an update but just been working on paint, etc...

Got everything painted and sanded and painted again.  Starting to come together.  Got the control panel painted, was too cheap to buy a custom overlay and I didn't like the painted surface so on my travels to home depot I found peel and stick checker plate.

Kids seem to love it which is all that counts.

Finally assembled everything.  Now I'm on a break to drywall, tape and mud the basement so I can bring this back out again.  I have the control panel to wire up and then connect everything to the PC.

Pretty cool!

Since you made it as a Stand up Cab, how does it accomodate an adult of around 6'? Would mind share your cabs dimension?

Being 5'6" it's perfect for me.  The entire cab is 5'8" tall and the control panel is 36" from the floor.  Approx 32" deep.

Wired in the controls for P1, got trackball working and just need to lengthen wires for P2 and wire it up.  Going to get my marquee professionally printed as that is just a test one from a laser printer to keep the light from shining in my eyes.

I still need to figure out how to keep the TV power button pinned down, not sure if anyone has ideas of a good way to accomplish that.  I've made shims and such that seem to eventually fall out.  I was thinking of a bolt to screw against it which might hold better.

Also need to figure out if I can get the joysticks to wake the PC.  So far I can get everything but peripherals to do so.

Does anyone have any suggestions for good mappings for MAME/Hyperspin?  I've been really struggling which functions are necessary vs nice to have.  So far I've done Play, Pause, Stop and Favorites.  I was thinking of how to get to the MAME options screen if I should re-use favorites when in MAME or if I should do a button combination.
