help finding PVM-2950Q monitor specs, and fixing slowdowns
« on: October 15, 2012, 10:45:43 am »
Hey guys, I'm new with this GroovyMame thing and I found myself having a really hard time trying to understand the logic of how it works.
All I did for now is :

1/install the calamity driver 9.3 (graphic card is a X1800GTO)
2/set the correct mame path in VMMaker.ini
3/Reduce the TotalModes to 90 for hyperspin
4/launch VMMaker.exe and reboot
5/Create new Mame.ini and don't change anything

It works ok but I experience some heavy distorted sound, like a vinyl record alternating between normal speed and slower speed rate (yet the emulation speed show a solid 95-100% most of the time), didn't figured how to fix this yet. Regular Mame don't do that.
Also I'd like to optimise VMMaker.ini to fit with this monitor capabilities, but I just don't get It, how am I supposed to figure the correct monitor_specs ?  :dunno

I found the service manual for this monitor, don't know if it can help in this regard.

Thanks for the help !

You can use the Arcade_OSD utility and some trial and error to figure out your monitor specs.  There have been some posts about how to do this in the GroovyMAME forum, just try searching for arcade_osd or arcadeosd.  I'm sorry I can't be more helpful in this regard.

What is your CPU and what games are experiencing sound issues?

It's possible that your computer isn't powerful enough to run those games without sound issues.

Make sure you are using the latest version of VMMaker and arcade OSD...   http://mame.3feetunder.com/windows-ati-crt-emudriver/vmmaker_1.3c_arcade_osd_1.3b.rar

To get around the Hyperspin bug without reducing the "TotalModes" , you can try using "Magic Resolutions" instead.  This thread has some info...
