Sound issues in Mala
« on: July 15, 2012, 05:45:35 pm »
I just started having a problem today.  Everytime I switch games in the game list, my volume goes down to 0.  I can then raise the volume to 100, but it resets back down to 0.  Then if I start the game while the volume is down, it will not have any sound.  I just purged all of my game specific .cfg files, except for my custom default.cfg, but I dont think that should have anything to do with it.  Is there a hard coded setting in the mala.ini file by chance?

Do you have Volume Down mapped to anything under Controller>Keyboard>Advanced or Controller>Joystick>Advanced ?

Using background music?

Sound effects?

Some have reported an issue when using background music that was fixed by disabling fades or updating to Mala 1.745 Beta.

Yeah, this crops up now and then. Happened on my vert cab, firing it up the first time after my recent move! No freakin idea, but both the system wave and Mala background music sliders were down.

It is my feeling that if you use any functionality in Mala that sends commands to windows to change the volume slider then such a change is one way.

Meaning that if you have fades enabled the fade happens, but the sound is not raised back at game start.  Or if you have the background music volume set to a low setting that setting is maintained in the games.

This really needs to fixed to allow separate volume control for gameplay and frontend and to allow for fades.

I noticed recently upon start up I got a warning, something about mixer.
To be honest I didn't pay attention.
However I'm now having the issue with the sound as mentioned in the thread.

Where do I find this option ?
I looked and didn't see it, as of now I've been unable to resolve my sound issues.

I'm using the newest build of MaLa, I looked again and didn't see the option mentioned above.
This is stressing me out !

I had a prior issue where I had no audio in games, but I've fixed that.
But the mixer dropping to zero remains unresolved.

I'm using the Arcade Ambiance Project in connection with MaLa.
I had an issue prior (on a different PC) that when "FADE IN/OUT" was checked I'd have no sound when an emulator was loaded. Uncheck the "FADE" option and this was resolved.
However now the issue is (as mentioned prior) that the volume goes down to zero.
I've started to play around with options, stop the AAP, but no resolve yet. It seems the volume goes down the second MaLa loads.

This is driving me crazy. Can't seem to resolve the issue.
Going to try removing the Arcade Ambiance files and forget about using that in the background. See if that works. I wanted to house the PC in the cabinet Sunday, but if I cant resolve the issue I cant place it into the cabinet.

Wasn't able to figure this out in full.
Best solution I found was to disable the Arcade Ambiance Project (or any audio on start I guess).
When I disable to audio to run in the background (with or without fade checked) my volume control did not drop down.
So at least now I can start the games with volume.

Since I can't seem to use the AAP audio in the back I'll look into adding menu sound effects.

Hope you don't mind if i hijack your thread; didn't wanna start a new one. I have a similar issue.

My question is: I have some mp3s that I want to play on MaLa startup. They however, don't start playing unless I right click, go into options and manually hit the 'play' button on the playlist each time I run MaLa.
I made sure I don't have the  "use sounds form layout' box checked. I recall things functioning normally maybe the first few times I added the mp3s, but now they don't play on startup as I would like.
It's not the issue where my volume gets set to 0 either.

any ideas?

(Just wanted to say thanks to Loadman+ anybody else for a great program and all the hard work!)

I think its a bug. I see a similar issue with background music.  I have five mp3's that shuffle and play continually while MaLa is up.  Any time I update configuration from within MaLa via right click, the music doesn't play on the next load.

So far the fix has been that once I've done the inital configuration and reopened to no sound I will right click again and go to the background music tab. Then I'll hit play and the uncheck and the recheck shuffle.  Then I save those settings and close Mala.  Next time it's opened the music settings are back.

This bug drives my F'n crazy !
In the past I've added sound effects to my layouts, which is awesome.
Gives a nice new depth to the layouts, a real topshelf feature.
But I really like the Arcade Ambiance Project, for anyone not sure what it is google it.
I think its awesome to have that running on one or more of my machines.
Long n short of it my latest project is my fastest PC and the PC I'd like to add this feature.
But MaLa keeps dropping the volume to 0. I'm trying to resolve it, but no dice.
If I can't fix this I'll add menu effets and be done, but I'd rather the AAP audio play.

I tried to uncheck all checked items (as mentioned above), but for me the sound issue is still the same. I've been meaning to put the new EXE in the folder (the beta version) and see if that could possibly help. If no dice I'll simply not use the background music and add effects to my menu.

Computers..................they never work the way you want !
Off topic, I'm coming close to finishing up the PC for my Mario Mame project.
Setting up these emulators is a ton of work.

I've made sure that all options were "un-checked" with respects to audio in Mala.
I even moved the Arcade Ambiance Project folder over to the main mala folder, however the issue still exists.
As soon as MaLa loads the volume drops to zero !

Dropped the MaLa EXE for the new beta version and it seems to have fixed my issue.
Tweaked the settings so the videos come out slightly louder than the AAProject.
All in all I'm just glad its working now !
SWEET !
