Sourcing Metal for control panels
« on: December 14, 2014, 10:02:42 pm »
Is it possible that metal of a side panel of a dryer, stove or washing machine would be thick enough for a control panel?

I would guess no.  When you lightly push on most washer/dryers that I have seen the "pop" in and out pretty easily and make quite a thundery racket.

Maybe if you double up a couple of sheets?

I think size of panel, and if you are bending the metal at any spot would make a difference as well. I would think you could easily reinforce it in key areas as well.

Your local HVAC guy will have scraps of 16ga. you can pick through.... That or your local metal outlet, they always have a wall of bargain leftovers.
