Does anyone know if it is possible to make or mod a stick/gamepad into working with a PS3?

You mean like hacking a PS3 controller to make an arcade-style controller?

Yes people know.

And for the inevitable follow up, yes it is possible.

And for the inevitable follow up, HarumaN can provide a hacked pad to do such, or you can research here and at the SRK forums, and dive in to try it yourself.

AFAIK the PS3 will use any standard PC Generic HID game pad interface. (So USB PC game pads will work)

Also there is the PS2 -> PS3 adaptor so you could plug in any classic PS2 stick of your choice.

Would that then include wired Xbox controllers? Or are they not generic enough?

I'm pretty sure Xbox 1 controllers are propritary, or at least partially, as they are ALSO USB hubs with controllers connected. (That's how the memory cards and other accessories dock into the Xbox controller)

Xbox 360 Controllers, as I recall, have a unique driver for the usual reasons and do not work as plug and play as any common PC game pad would, like anything you get from Logitech or other companies. However I am not entirely sure, I have neither console honestly so I can't test it.

It does remind of a funny story, as I told a friend to use his wired 360 controller for PC emulation.

"It doesn't work?"
"Did you try it?"
"Yeah! The lights don't come on."
"You mean the Xbox status lights didn't come on? Maybe cause you connected it to a Dell Lattitude Laptop instead? Did you try the driver settings to see if the controller responded or if it worked in game?"
"No..."
"Try it."
"It works!"
"How did you get that job reviewing games for IGN agian?"

Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 is the answer you are looking for. It doesn't get any better than an HRAP

I've built my own stick (and the control panel to my cab), I still play on my HRAP1 the vast majority of the time if im playing consoles. And you're not going to run into nearly as many issues with things like leads coming off the PCB and things of that nature with an HRAP.

Customs are sweet, but they're generally a lot more delicate

I can pretty much guarantee that no leads will ever come off any PCB I hack (*unless you pull very hard on them).

I don't much care for the Hori sticks, and I definitely agree with HarumaN.

Building your own FTW!

Also, I have never had any problems like leads coming off with any of the sticks I have built, and they have to endure some pretty hard times with my 4 children.

I'd wager that my XBOX 360 stick would hold me if I stood on it, no problem. It's all how you build it.

I know a guy who knows a guy who imports sticks from Japan

I just don't have $150 to import the HRAP3 Amazon edition. Then if I don't like the buttons/stick I don't have another $50 to replace them with Seimitsu or Sanwa parts.

I was just thinking of modding my HFS3 with an LS-33 and OBSF-30 but have decided to build a bar top cab instead.

I am wanting to start on a project to take the guts of a ps3 controller and put them into one the new upcoming Street Fighter IV arcade sticks. I love the arcade stick as it is but its not wireless much less bluetooth. I was thinking with the proper drivers and a bluetooth dongle this controller would work for a PC also. I have seen the wireless 360 arcade stick hosted by Endgaget, this is the same concept only with PS3 and using bluetooth.

It is possible (the wiring part, not sure about the bluetooth dongle)... just be aware that soldering to the PS3 pcb can be difficult, depending on your level of soldering skill.

What would be the best way in wiring multiple pcbs including the PS3 Sixaxis and a Wireless 360 controller. Would it be better to have the common signal wires meet on a set of multiple terminal strips or would it be best just to have each signal wire meet on the button switches themselves?

I've gotta go with HarumaN on this one as well. Building your own brings out an amazing sense of accomplishment. And no one can buy that same stick in a store. Its yours and unique.

I've built 1 for myself and 3 for others so far. It takes some learning, but in the end its so worth while.

And if you hit a snag, there's plenty of knowledgeable peeps here in the forum that are more than willing to help out.

I apologize for bumping such an old topic. But I have an old Sixaxis laying around that I would like to solder to in order to use my PS3 in my Mame cabinet. However it's nothing like the older PS controllers. Is there a guide on how to solder to the Sixaxis? I know there was an adapter floating around online but I can't seem to find those anymore.

Yeah... don't solder that. It's hard as crap. Took me three hours to do one, and I hack controllers all the time. Go find toodles over at shoryuken forums, he should be able to sell you an axisdapter.

you can hack a ps1 controller and use ps1 to usb converters. those are like $5 on ebay.

Yes, the ZD ReMatch does have a designated Home button. The Regular ZD Arcade board does not, but can still be used on a PS3.
