Any DOS wizards out there?
« on: May 12, 2002, 12:59:55 am »
Hello folks, I need some help tweaking MS-DOS 7.0 (from Win98SE) to free as much memory on 640 Kb as possible. I thought that by pressing F8 and selecting 6 (safe mode prompt) or 3 (safe mode) would leave almost all 640 Kb free. I need to run uvconfig.exe from Scitech Display Doctor 6.53 - this uvconfig program is 451,936 bytes long, config.dat is 34,609 and univbe.drv is 20,852 making a total of 507,397 free space at least. I simply can't make it...

Any suggestions are appreciated.

QEMM rocked for freeing up memory.  Good luck finding a copy, if you don't have one though.

Can't you load any of that stuff to upper memory?  That would free more of your base to run your programs.
