Free player button graphics ALL GONE
« on: September 29, 2003, 11:27:47 pm »
Sorry didn't want to put this in Buy/Sell/Trade as it is none of those, it is free.

I had some white vinyl player button graphics made to try out on different colored buttons.  It seems to work really well but I'm not sure about an extended durability with multiple button mashings.  They may peel off over time.  I made two styles of guys, solid and distinct arms and legs.  The 3 and 4 player guys ended up too big to fit on buttons so I am going to make more soon :-\  But as soon as I get another batch made I will be offering them for free so you can apply them to your buttons.  If anyone is interested please email or PM me so I can start filling out the envelopes.  If you want more than one set please make note.

I plan on having the correct size guys in a few weeks so it may be a while before I send anything. :-[

You can also get the graphic file in AI format here as well.

If you used regular, good quality sign vinyl, I expect they will last a LOOOOONG time considering the infrequent pressing of those buttons compared to normal ones.

Nice gesture.

You could also use those protective button covers since they aren't frequently used buttons. Then they should last forever. Also, that is very cool of you to offer those for free.

I notice the men aren't the same.  Some have seperated legs and some don't

I just thought I'd mention that someone asked to have some hockey guys made for his buttons.  I'll be adding the hockey guys to the cut file as well.

If anyone else wants a custom graphic for their buttons please send me the artwork or .eps file so I can add it in there.

I'll be sending the file on Monday (10-13).
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

OMG!!!!  that would rock so much.. the trucker mud flap  girl and a guy and a girl.. how about in black for a white button?  I am sure that if the stiker was applied and then sprayed or coated with a type of clear it would be A ok..

so.. um.. can I get a hook up or at least what they are printed on and how they are cut?

thx again!!!

Ok this is what I have so far.  I'll try to get them cut in black as well.  The ladies arms/toes are extremely small as is the hockey stick, I'll be amazed if they come out of the cutter/weeded/applied undamaged, but hey, it's worth a try!

Delta88,
They will be cut out of high quality 3M sign vinyl.  Given that they are very small they may be prone to tearing off since really they are just stickers, very good stickers mind you, but stickers nonetheless.

EDIT:
hmmm, maybe I should change the 3 player guy/girl to be 2 girls and 1 guy, much more appealing that way.....
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Actually I'm very interested, although I dont have Adobe Illustrator on me so I cant put together an EPS file for this one, but I'll just post the. jpg.  Would it be possible to get 2 of these biohazard stickers, and a set of those 1p, 2p, 3p, 4p stickers?
If its a go I'll PM you my address and owe you a Control panel overlay or a custom marquee *I've got decent artwork skills in Photoshop*
     -Chu
Btw: you can just mail these in an envelope cant you, so there shouldnt be any shipping charges right?

I'd take some!  :o

I've bought the package over ebay from X-Arcades and picked up 2 of the joysticks and 20 black pushbuttons w/ microswitches and caps, but wanted the 1 and 2 player buttons, the white 1 and 2 player vinyl stickers would be amazing

Here's a few more icon ideas that some ppl may like/want:

lol, yes, you just drop and envelope in the black box out front and it shows up wherever you want it to go.  jk, I know what you are getting at.

I'll rephrase your question for you:
I really appreciate you doing this!  Assuming this is US to US, will it only cost you $.37 to send these?

I would LOVE to get ahold of some!

Let us know when you are going to get them.  I'll drop a few buck in there for you... especially if you are looking at having to order a second sheet!

the naked chicks are GREAT  I don't know if my wife would like them as much as I would... But !@# it... I have to hide my cabinet in my office anyway!

for pause could use the VCR pause or paws.  Exit, I can only think of the arrow pointing out an open door.  On off, the circle with a line through it that I see on my monitor.

To clear things up a bit, my parents own a sign shop in Utah and are visiting next weekend so I am going to send them a file to cut and bring with them.  They end up with nice scraps from their large format printer that are only really useful for small jobs.  Most of the time spent in a sign shop is artwork, weeding and application, the cutting is fast.  Since I will weed and send to you all to apply I've wasted very little of their time.   Thus free for me, free for you and many useless scraps not gone to waste  ;)

I will not be masking the vinyl, it will be easier for you to apply with some nice clear Scotch tape.  I'll post a small tutorial on my website next week.  hmm well maybe the week after as The Matrix Reloaded comes out on Tuesday....much watch every night....

My only cost is envelope shipping .37 which isn't all bad  :P
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

How about Pump and DDR arrows?

The Pump arrows are Up-left, up-right, down-left, down-right, and a square. While the DDR arrows are up, down, left, and right (and I think some versions also use some of the Pump arrows as well).

I would be totally down for a set of Pump arrows to put on buttons.

What the hell, I'll even send you some extras.  :)

Good Idea..... I'm up for it....  Tell me when, and the evelope is in the mail.

A sheet with all the examples would be great....

How do you plan to arrange the images on the sheets ?

How many images per sheet ?

I'd love to get in on this as well.  As I'm in Canada, I would be more than happy to send a self addressed stamped envelope to you for this.
Personnally, I'd love the player 1-4 buttons, but p1-4 Mortal Kombat decals to put on colored buttons would really Rock too!!! <I'm trying to plan a dragon themed cabinet>  The other exampes are cool, but I would want to waste too much of your "stock"   :D

Btw, here's another vote of Thanks for doing this!

I'd love to have just a player 1 and player 2.  I'll take whatever you have leftover after requests, except for the trucker chicks.  I'm sure the wife would veto those!

I'll send a self addressed stamped envelope and some extra stamps, too.  Just tell me where to send.

Thanks so much!  I'm sure we all appreciate it!

Alright this is what I have so far.  I will mostly have players 1-4 cut and much less of all the rest.  And some sets of black as well.

I pulled the arrows and PS symbols from Frosty's vectorized graphics in the vector library....thanks Frost!

If you feel the need to send an envelope and stamp I'd be much obliged, but if you don't, no worries.  Sorry I haven't replied to any of the requests either, I figure I'll reply when I have them ready to send.

Any more custom graphics to add?????
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

I feel guilty asking for these. you say "free" but they have to be costing you something. I'd buy these by the sheet myself just to have spares. I'm doing some machines for kids and symbols help. Ever think of sellin 'em? I mean if someone wanted a lot...

Anyway, I'm interested in the playstation graphics, a pause and an exit symbol. And a lot more but like I said...feelin guilty.

Have you thought about a credit symbol? Maybe the outline of a quarter, or a dollar/cent sign. I know I'd be interested for one.

Thanks for all the work you put into this. It's people like you that make this hobby fun...that and the games.  ;D

I'd don't suppose I can get just a sheet of the normal non-arm and non-feet showing 1-4 player versions? ie. a couple of them like 4x P1, P2, P3, and P4?

I'd gladly pay you via paypal $2 or something.

I think that would be a really good idea. I think the dollar/cent signs would be best. If you do make thouse, you could add some of thouse to my order? :) (I'm HoeBot@HotMail.com).

I'll mail you some stamps next time I pick some up.

I got the sheets cut and am in the process of weeding them.  My wife's family is here for the week as well so progress is
slow...  Uh, really slow.  It'll probably be next week before I start sending anything out.

Thanks for your patients guys!

Look at all the response!  Why not make up a sheet of useful Mame icons and sell them?  Do a poll, and select the most usefull graphics that could be used on buttons or on underlay graphics, and offer em up?  I'm sure I'd be interested in a few sheets to use on the cabs I do, and it might end up being more useful than a sheet of "do a fire hydrant and a walrus and maybe some chickens, yeah 4 chickens" (sorry fellas)  ;)

Considering it doesn't look like you want to charge a fortune for these things, you might do quite well selling them.  With the way people are salivating over them already (myself included) I don't think you'll have any trouble moving a few units  ;D

The 3 and 4 player guys ended up too big to fit on buttons so I am going to make more soon :-\

Why not put them on the CP ABOVE the buttons? Also you should post or PM your PayPal ID so people (I) can pay you for a sheet or 2 of those new labels. What's the per sheet price shipped (mailed)?

I agree, I'd love to get my hands on a couple sheets now; and more in the future. I know you don't look at this as a business, and you probably wouldn't make a ton of money on this...but you could cover your costs, make a little extra cash, and TONS of good will. Just a thought for your consideration. Anyway, even if you don't want to continue/expand production, it's great that you're doing this...and I for one couldn't appreciate it more.  :D

Sorry, no Paypal.  I'm really not worried about money though guys, I just thought I'd give a run a try to see if the stickers work and to make a contribution to the board members.  If everyone gives them a try and likes them and they don't peel off too easily I'll probably set up a standard sheet to send out.  Heck they may turn out to be crap when put on regularly used buttons  :'(

To be honest I'll probably have to charge a couple dollars for the next run if this is successful because of the amount of time it takes to weed the sheet since the graphics are so small.  Charging would have more to do with my wife whining from no attention and getting no return for the lost "family" time  ???

Well, back to weeding......

Alright I think I finally have enough done to start sending them out!  I have one more sheet of 1-4 players to work on but I can do that if more are wanted.  I'll have the envelopes in the mail this weekend and a small tutorial on my site Sunday.

Thanks to the guys that sent SASEs and a little extra!

See that little white void in the vinyl that is the eye of the PB Bunny?  Somebody has to manually pull that tiny piece of vinyl out of there.   :P

Weeding is the removal of all vinyl material that is not part of the design you want to keep.  Little stuff like the above can be a major, time consuming PITA.

I got mine!  cool.  But I found one problem that for your next batch you can do.  I forgot to post the Atari start button figures.  That's actually what I want.  I totally didn't think about it until now.  My volcano buttons are going on my future cocktail cabinet.  Need the atari Y stick figure for that!

For an example look at a digdug or centipede control panel.
http://mamefans.metropoliglobal.com/down/Museum/Upright1-C/Centipede/Control1.jpg

Anyway, I will used these for my upright.  They are pretty cool.

Edit: Trying to apply them.
Ok, I followed the instructions.  The dollar sign is extremely hard to do without ripping the thin bar.  Word of warning to people.  Same witht he exit sign.  The thin door frame tends to misshappen as you put it on the button.

Deoh, I'm sorry should've mentioned the difficulty on some of those.  My next batch will definitely be more structured.  Meaning I'll have them cut as a full set on a single sheet.  Also by adding multiple $ and cent signs to each set since I'm assuming that most panels have more than one coin in.  And I would like to adjust some of the graphics to make them more durable.  Like the Exit symbol, I'm fairly certain it is going to get stretched or torn on just about every panel.  I think by making the door thicker or rounding out the border will do the trick  :)

I hope everyone has good luck applying them!
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

They won't deteriorate over time, but fingers rubbing over the exit button's thin lines will probably mess them up.  The thicker graphics like the player buttons should be fine for a long time though.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Thicker lines would help.
I don't like proposal 2 because it wouldn;t work well if oyu didn't put it on buttons like I have done.,

Would you be up to adding in the Atari Y player start Symbols to?

Ahh... I didin't look at this thread for a few weeks and you are already shipping!

Any left?

I would LOVE to get whatever sets I could.

Also, did you ever setup a paypal account for shipping + extra expenses for your time / effort?

WOW I got my graphics today.  Talk about going above and beyond!  Thanks so much and if there is anything I can do for you, just ask...  I totally appreciate what you did for the BYOAC guys and the hobby in general.  I haven't applied my graphics yet, but I'm sure your tutorial will come in handy.

Thanks again Nannuu

I still have some, just PM me your address.  I  ran out of Power, Cent, Dollar and Exits but still have P1-P4, P1-2, male and female.
And I still have some P1-P2 of the trucker women if anyone wants a set.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Now I'm wondering what buttons to put them on... I feel bad about using them on anything but new buttons.....  I have to place an order for some buttons worthy of these!

Color me weird, but I would like to see 1 and 2-player stickers that look like Coke bottles.  Perhaps the following could be a start (as I couldn't find anything good after a 15-minute Google search).

I don't have any (usable) photo-editing software to doctor this, and chances are it would not look that good after I was done anyway.  Maybe someone can spend 5 minutes on it to make it presentable.  ;)

Great job and thanks for you efforts, Nannuu!!!

Anyway, I'll add a few Coke bottles to the next batch.  I tried to put in the Coke swirl but it just looked like a broken bottle  :-\

Wizer,
Yep, I've sent a few to the UK already so that's no problem.  Bulk as in 100 sets?  I suppose I could, since they are a very thin vinyl I send them in a normal envelope.  I can definitely email you the file that they were cut from too.

NoNs,
And yep, I'll do abc xyz and some pac stuff on the next run as well.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Nannuu, I just saw this thread, top job!
I'm in Australia, but I'd love to work out some way to get you something in exchange for some of these (a kangaroo perhaps?). I have a small panel that I'm mounting power, reset, volume, usb x2, tv out & headphones on. Would it be possible to get some black stickers made up about 15mm high to suit?

Basically I'd want a power symbol, some sort of reset one (lightning? dunno), either numbers from 1-11 (spinal tap ;-) or a series of increasing bars, the usb logo, a picture of a tv and some phones. A white pause and escape would also be wicked.

Actually, if you can also send me a few sheets I'll weed them and post them out to any Aussies & NZers that want them.

I can't do EPS but I can send you jpgs, emf or cad files.

I am heading to my parents over the July 4 weekend so I'll cut as many as I have time for.  This will probably be my last run of these.  I will also add a few more icons like volume, headphones, usb etc (as requested above).

If anyone is so inclined to throw money at me you can paypal me at:
willyliliana@charter.net
But I am not asking for money for the stickers, I'll send them money or not.

My home internet is also still down and email access is blocked from work  >:(
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Nannuu,
I've emailed my images to the address in your profile. Sorry for the delay.

As mentioned before, I volunteer to weed and post stickers to any other Aussies/NZers that want them. I'll start a thread asking for names/addresses when I have them on this side of the world.

I have the new sheets cut.  I have no idea how many I did.  I just cut until I ran out of scraps.  This is the sheet everyone will get unless you had previously asked for something custom and I actually got it done.  It will take a couple weeks before I get to weeding them.

If anyone wants the cut file, I'll be adding it to the tutorial page of how to install them this weekend.  You can take the file to any local sign shop and they can cut them in any color.  If you do make sure you get the thinnest vinyl they have, it is generally more resistant to wear.

Why do you go to the trouble of weeding them?  If you're giving them away, let everyone weed thier own.

Most likely I'd have to send more out that way because they are kind of hard to weed.  Besides it is a nice service to BYOACers.  But if anyone insists on them right away and wants to weed their own I'll can send them.

Some guys spend countless hours making frontends, tutorials, webpages etc all for free for us.  I like to contribute in some way.

If you click where it says Instant Message below the members name/pictures over there on the left you can send them a Private Message (PM).  Thus Instant Message = Private Message.  The top of the page will tell you if you have a new message.

Ok I have a final count.  I have 80 sets I can send out.  But I only have 4 weeded leaving me with the conclusion that I'm just going to send them out unweeded and make a small tutorial.  My wife helped last time as a "family project" but for some reason that excuse just isn't working this time.  Go figure  ::).  <sigh>

I took the pics for the tutorial tonight and will be uploading and sending everything out this weekend.  Sorry it has taken so long to figure out that I'm slow  :-\.

Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

I got mine.  However my milkmen don't have feet!  Oh well, I have the ai file.  Plus, thinking aobut it, for exit, I think I'd rather have a door with an arrow pointing out.

Pretty cool stuff.  I'm not going to be using all the graphics, I might give the unused ones away here.

Wow, these things look awesome, I'm just about to apply them to my black competition pushbuttons.  I actually got mine in the mail yesterday but it was so buried in the pile of junk mail I forgot about it.
Weeding with a pushpin is So simple btw, you can literally poke and lift the extra vinyl.
btw, when placing the 1up guy on competition pushbuttons, TRIPLE CHECK YOUR ACCURACY!  I put my 1up guy way on the right, and the 2up guys slightly towards the right.  I was fine with the 2up guy but I had to peel off the 1up guy and try another one, this time overcorrecting to the left which made it align perfectly.
-thanks a bunch Nannuu, these things are pretty awesome *as long as no one picks at em*

I didn't realize you put you put USB symbols on there too.  That's going on my upright.

Also got mine...these look fantastic!  Thank you so much.

I must say, this community is MUCH better than many other communities (outside of the arcade hobby) I've been a part of.  Everyone is helpful and always willing to lend a hand.  Thanks!
