xbmc remote help
« on: April 21, 2012, 12:45:31 am »
hi all,

been using xbmc for a bit now, extremely happy with it. i got a bug in me to get my remote to work with it now but i can't seem to figure it out. could anyone point me to "xbmc remote for dummies" walk thru that could help a newbie out?

fyi, running the following:

xp sp3
usb-uirt (ir receiver)
the remote i am trying came with my hauppauge video capture card. i believe it to be mce capable (but xbmc says no remote detected). the remote has "RC6ir" on the back, part number RRS9002-86XXF

any help is appreciated. dying to put this project behind me and this is pretty much the last thing to set up

There is an MCE Remote plugin for XBMC but I could never get it to work.

Check out http://xbmccustomregis.sourceforge.net/ which worked like a charm for me. It also has an AutoHotkey script (GSB_Win32bit_Admin_v1.06.zip) that will enable you to start XBMC using the Windows logo button which normally launches MCE.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

If you can't get it working, do you have an iPhone/iPod/iPad? There is an XBMC remote app.

Don't remember why, but I bought this for like $19

I think it was because buttons would launch MCE, so this software intercepts it and knows what media center software you are running and changes the buttons for you.

I've been using XBMC for years, but only on Linux and the Xbox1.  If you are using the computer only for XBMC, I would look into OpenELEC.  It's tiny, and can even run from an SD or USB, and most MCE IR remotes will just work on first boot.  I use 2-Foxconn nt-330i, 1-Acer Revo 1600, an AppleTV1, all with OpenELEC.

If anyone hasn't seen XBMC, check it out, it is the best media center money can't buy.
