just wondering if someone can tell me what this is and does

title says it all this plugs into wall and then my arcade psu plugs (bottom pic frost fa117)  into it not sure what it is does seems like another iso transformer if so why not hook my monitor directly up to that and remove the williams one (other pics ) as its only being used to power the monitor anyways. also does anyone know the pinout on this transformer

it would have provided voltage to the power pcb that would convert it to the-5 5 and 12 needed or directly to the main pcbs...

hmmmm should I still use it I don't see the point of it when the arcade power supply has its own ac cord and runs through a transformer..

Im only asking because I dont want to not use it and f something up

Is this cabinet from Canada?  The bottom one looks like the "Ontario Hydro Isolation Transformer" that Ontario (somewhat blindly) required in all their arcade games.  This would not be original equipment.

The transformer with the Williams part number is probably original and looks like it provides low voltage AC for the game (logic, sound, etc.) in addition to probably an isolated line-voltage output for the monitor.

If you're converting to MAME or similar, it may be easier to use just the one in the bottom picture as then you won't have to worry about all the extra windings and finding the pinout.

That is exactly what it is and is affectionately referred to as a boat anchor by collectors here (e.g. when folks ask what the second ISO is for, the answer is for holding your boat in place).

wow great info yes it is from canada and does have the ontario hydro sticker on it. hard to find any info on these things thanks..

another note I just picked up a rygar arcade and to my suprise it too has a frost fa117 inside but they just took the output from that and spliced it into the monitor and power box for the game pcb which is what i was thinking for my other game(original question)

so just to confirm tho so I don't blow my monitor up, the monitor states it requires a iso transformer to run properly you say(monmotha) remove the old williams as it only powers the monitor and basically does the same thing as the Frost anyway , and then  splice the monitor directly into the big frost iso output and all should be fine I assume... hopefully

to me it looks like the isolaation transformer for a monitor or something
