I need your opinion
« on: March 14, 2012, 06:48:57 pm »
Hey guys,

I have a dedicated original MK2 cabinet I am converting to mame (without destroying anything).  I am going to make a new control panel with a 7 button layout So I can play street fighter and KI. My question is should I have a new MK2 cpo printed out, or should I make something custom since it is going to be a mame machine.

Keep in mind I am not destroying anything. I am going to store the old panel away and keep everything else original.

There was actually a 7 button layout made it's probably floating around here somewhere. You could just get it printed out and you'll be good to go!

Thats my opinion

Edit: it's MK1

Might still be useful though

Thanks for that, but all of the links are dead, or from mega upload and as far as I know they have closed down.

Are the sides and Marquee MK2 and in decent shape?  If it's a decent looking MK2 machine, and you like MK, I'd keep it looking as original as possible to avoid having to come up with a new theme/concept and tie it all together.  Now if you don't LIKE MK, that's a different story.

For what its worth keep the outward looks close to the original.  It will just add an extra element of surprise to your guests when you show them all that it can really play.

Yeah the whole cabinet is in great shape. Its all original expect the marquee is UMK3. After thinking more about it, i'll try to find an MK2 cpo redesigned for 6 buttons plus a run button.

You could just leave the panel as it is and say goodbye to the 6 button fighting games. The fact that it is a Mortal Kombat machine will mean that you will likely tend to run that game anyway.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

While the MK series is my favorite, I also love KI, and Street fighter. So a 6 button layout is a must.

I would play around with the MK CPs that are listed above, or make a custom one with the same matching colors so it all blends together. What Joystick are you going to be trying for the custom CP.

This thread turned partly into a button layout debate, including some stuff about MK on the first page:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=118842.0

Sounds like you need a fully Japanese panel for most fighting games and a fully American panel for MK.  The solution is a rotating panel.  Shouldn't be too hard to do without permanently altering your nice original cabinet.   >:D

Seriously though, maybe swappable panels would be possible?
