Cabinet locks, all keyed the same
« on: January 05, 2012, 09:12:28 am »
Years and years ago I placed a Happ order for my cabinet build that included a handful of cylinder locks. I could swear that they were all supposed to be keyed alike, but it took me years to actually get to the point in my build where I was installing the locks and they all use different keys. It's annoying to have all these different keys for the various locks on my cabinet. Does anyone know where I can buy new locks that will be keyed alike? I'm guessing that would cost less than taking my existing locks to a locksmith to have them rekeyed (if I could even find a locksmith around who would do it).

IIRC, Peale used to sell keyed-alike locks.

I just got mine at the hardware store (Menards). They had a lot of cam locks in inventory, and I just looked at the lock number on each one. The standard ones have maybe 10-20 lock variations. I just found 3 that had a matching number and I was good to go. As an added bonus, you get like 5 spare keys.

I went to a lock smith and asked him about them.  He said most of them that he had were the same key and said that if I took the package to any lock smith they should have that same key in that brand.  I bought like 10 or so because they were $5.00 each.

I think you can get them all keyed the same at TwistedQuarter, this is a link to their "cylinder" locks, but you can get their regular coin door locks keyed alike as well.
