I read your thread early this morning and getting dressed to go to town I realized I'd put on Tron black and blue... your machine was it my head.

Dude, your cab is awesome and 7? years into the build, you simply gotta finish it.

Hope that's soon.

Excellent work. Cheers

Thanks man.  I keep telling myself that I'm just amortizing the cost over more years by delaying.   >:D

I just finished reading through this thread and all I can say is WOW! The cab is beautiful and the lighting recreates the Tron feeling so well.  This build has everything and you documented it VERY well. Thank you for that.

Thanks man I appreciate the comments.  It is sometimes hard to tell how much documenting is too much documenting so I'm real glad you found it worthwhile.

The first step to knowing you have a problem is asking for help.  So I asked a buddy for help with my marquee.  Despite being a Packers fan he is a really great guy and he agreed to make the logo for me.  I'm trying to figure out how best to use the logo.

Here is my first draft.  Imagine that the white border does not extend to the left past the Encom logo.  I'm still struggling with how to make that work in Illustrator.

Any thoughts?

Looks pretty good but leaves a lot of open black space to the left and the right.

If the Encom logo and the white outline overlap this may help.

In illustrator, select both paths that make up the Encom logo and the path that makes up the white outline. Then find pathfinder and use the divide tool. Then ungroup and you should be able to select the piece that you want to remove. Hit delete. I typically join the other parts back together with the combine function in pathfinder to prevent accidentally creating lines in my work but that's up to you.

Top notch build. I really love what you have done here.

I agree with you about the black space. I'd like to fit an Identity Disc image in somehow but can't make it work.

I'll try your tip tomorrow. I fought with the Encom logo for over an hour tonight and finally gave up.

Thanks for the feedback.

Do you know what kicks ass about your Tron themed build?

It  actualy has Tron controls on it!

I like the simple marquee,  understated is awesome considering everything that is glowing!

Thanks man.  Discs of Tron has been surprisingly popular with my kids and their friends.  They love using the trigger stick and spinner.

Here is another option I'm playing with.  I like that there are discs in the image but the logo had to be smaller to not cover their faces.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Olivia Wilde, I mean who doesn't?  But if it were me (and it definitely isn't) I'd stick to something more subtle.

I see what you are saying.  There is one other "gaudy" image I may try but I'm leaning the simple direction.  I think the plain black background and white border will look nice with the black and white on my cabinet.  Tomorrow I'm going to print a test print on our large format printer at work and see how it looks on the cabinet.

That's the feedback I'm getting in my house as well.  Everybody but the dog likes the simpler one.   ;D

My daughter made a great point that the one with the actor's pictures will date my cabinet much quicker.

She might be a bit off-putting to some.  When she runs into a 4-way game in the wild that has an 8-way joystick installed she gets pissed.  Donkey Kong in-particular MUST have an original joystick.  Of course I love that about her.

Thanks for the tips n3wt0n.  I tried but was unable to get this to work.  I ended up asking one of our art faculty at work to help me.  After watching her work for 45 minutes I have a new appreciation for artists and why good quality artwork is worth paying for.

Seems like too much to me, but it's your cab.
I think the reason #3 was so appealing was the simplicity without being boring. 5 seems potentially busy and then adding the border takes it too far for me.

It seems a bit busy to me as well.  I'm in love with that border though because it was such a PITA to make.

I just threw 3 & 5 together to have some variety before posting last night and at the time was really leaning towards #2.  I'm starting to like #3 best.  It is simple but not quite as plain as #2.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  Is this too much?

Yeah, I think 3 meshes best with the overall cabinet. The cabinet itself looks like something out of the Tron universe, not just something simply branded as Tron.

I know it's different than the rest, but what if the grid lines on #2 were either red or yellow?  NOT bright colors though.  Muted or ark enough that you'd have to look closely to see them.  I think the muted contrast would look nice.  Just a thought.

The lines remind me of the light cycles albeit in the original as I can't recall the sequel's lines.

I like that idea.  Having other colors would look better lit up as well.   The cabinet is only black/white and "Tron Blue/Green" though.  I may play with it tonight and see.

#4.

Your cab has a minimalistic feel. In a good way. Why over complicate it with anything other then minimalistic art. #4 is by far the best in my humble opinion.
