Controls "remapping" themselves
« on: October 26, 2011, 02:50:53 am »
When playing games in Mala, I have a problem where when I play, what I consider old school games, Pac Man, Galaga etc.  my controls work fine.  If I play something like Nba Jam, 720 deg. etc. it works fine for about 5 to 10 minutes.  Then all of a sudden a couple of the buttons remap themselves to someting else.  Again this only happens in the "newer" games.  I can play Galaga for hours and nothing goes wrong.  If I reboot the computer, its all resets itself and everything is fine.  Im using Mala 172 and mame .141.  For the controls I'm using the playstation 2 controller to usb.  Any idea or questions?  I'm lost. :dunno

As an example, I was playing 19XX tonight, everthing was fine for about 10 or so minutes.  I exited the game, and now the button I use for game/player 1 start is now the same as the scroll up in the menu.  So when I scroll up, it starts the game highlighted.  I went into the menu and pulled up the mapping test tab, and sure enough, when i press up, button 3 AND joy up lit up.  And now now button 3 was now button 7.   I'm about to set this thing on fire.

Thanks for the reply Louis.  I actually tried Gameex last night and it did the same thing.  So it looks like its on my end.  I used a new ps2 controller through the same usb adapter today and had no problems at all.  You think my soldering job is shorting out or something?  I did use a playstation 1 controller to solder the wires to.  I wouldn't think that would matter though.  I just can't figure out why it only does it on the newer games and not Galaga and such.  Very weird.
