SCART: Info on Grundig ST 72/860 (CUC 2031)?
« on: March 05, 2012, 07:43:38 pm »
Grundig TVs are reasonably rare in my part of the world but one has recently surfaced for sale locally.

I've tried a few Grundigs with MAME and had great success in general (with the analogue chassis types being particularly well suited.) However, I want to avoid buying another 100 Hz model as I can't stand the artefacts that 100 Hz processing typically introduces. The 100 Hz model Grundig that I tried late last year wasn't as bad as the Loewe 100 Hz chassis TVs but it still did some weird things to the image in certain situations.

Does anyone know for sure whether the CUC 2031 chassis is 100 Hz or a standard 50/60 Hz SCART set?

Thanks in advance for any advice or info...

50 hertz .. all 5xxx , 6xxx, 7xxx and 20xxx /21xx are 50 / 60 hertz. 100 hertz grundigs are 18xx series. i tested 2 72 cm 29 inch grundigs and didnt like em . a 29 inch philips would be a better choice concerning picture quality. tube is the same , but the philips chassis are much better . but i wont vote for 29 inch lowres anyway . for me its a nogo , even with the best tubes available. lowres on monstercrts is like neogeo on a 16:10 lcd .

cuc 4-7 are poti based , cuc 2xxx digital chassis types ( some with few , others without geometry potis , depending on the model)

for detailed list of ancient grundigs crt tvs u may google fitforfuture pdf.

Aha. Excellent info as always apfelanni! :)

I'm thinking that this Grundig CUC 2031 may end up selling for a song so I thought I'd give it a go and maybe pass it on to another enthusiast when done. Since you say it's not 100 Hz, I'll probably make a move on it.

I'm still eager to test out your theory on smaller tubes being better for lo-res games but A66EAK seems to be the dominant tube type for SCART TVs in Australia. Maybe those smaller TVs just weren't imported on a large scale here...

Interesting that you give the Phillips chassis a good report. I'd love to try one but Phillips TVs are tricky here: mostly they have S-video or composite inputs. To find a SCART model I have to individually contact every seller because they don't usually state the model number or tell you the TV is SCART equipped in their ads. :( The big German brands are easy since they're all imported and don't have non-SCART models specifically for this market (unlike Phillips and Sony).

Anyway, thanks again for the reply! :)
