Display settings in older MAME

So, in the newer MAMEs, there are slider controls for vertical and horizontal position and stretch in the display menus. I am trying out MAME 0.72... anybody know if these settings existed for earlier versions, or what lines in the .ini would get me the same results?

Thanks... just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Giving it a resolution (640 x480) seemed to knock most games into good framing.
