Mod or not to Mod a great working MKII cab.
« on: July 26, 2011, 12:18:38 pm »
Hello All...

I just purchased/(need to pick up) a great looking Mortal Kombat II arcade game.  Everything is orginal...No chip errors when doing diagnostic tests, bright colors, great sound, side art (no scratches), controls work, counter works, coin door works..even the arcade manual is in great shape....Everything!!!

Even thou this is a cool game... MK3/UMK3 always has been my fav.

What I would like to do is put MK3 or UMK3 in this machine...perhaps get a JAMMA switcher(if that what you call it :-)) I would make another control panel for it and add the RUN button...I could always revert back to stock if need be.

But.....

This cabinet is in great orginal condition.  Should I keep it orginal or go ahead with the mod?

Sav

I would vote for keeping original...

Your other option is OK, too, though, as long as you can revert back to original.

Go with the Multi-MK! Sounds like you've got a solid plan.

Mod it but don't destroy it, make sure you can revert to original should you decide in the future.

Mod it irreversibly. I love watching all these purists squirm.

I say you should pull out the MK stuff and turn it into a Centipede.

I have this same setup, (love the MKII cab the best) and I have UMK3 running in it. The run buttons are direct drilled into the MKII cp which is the only thing I would have done differently. You can probably save yourself the hassle and find a MK3 cp to avoid making it.

I agree!!!  Leave it looking like a MKII but run MK3 or Multi-MK.  Don't kill a perfectly good working MKII

OUT,

MM ;D

actually you should try to find an MK4 cp because there is a bigger spacing between the player 1 and player 2 joysticks so its more comfortable to play 2 players. Keep that mk2 CP in original condition =)
Cabs: Tron, MKII, MK4, KI2, Blitz99, TMNT, Pac-Mania, Defender, Mame Box.
PCBs: MK1, UMK3, Killer Instinct, Area51, Sunset Riders, Pit Fighter, Wargods.
Pins: Bride of PinBot, Attack from Mars, The Shadow

You should gut it and make a really nice chair out of it, maybe even add a telephone feature.
