Want any more?

I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything, it's just a bad analogy because the average rock band breaks up 2 to 3 times over their history.  You know that one or two years when they didn't tour?  Well officially speaking they had broken up.

Get your facts straight, Metallica NEVER broke up. They had a lineup change, thats totally different. Journey sounds exactly the same as they did with Steve Perry, and their new album is pretty cool. That type of music from the era they came from is really difficult to evolve from. Those type of fans want the same ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. KISS goes on tour whenever they need money, same as the Rolling Stones, and Aerosmith.

:lol and since when are you an expert on touring bands and music in general Howard? "officially speaking they had broken up" that made me laugh, I hope that was a joke!  :laugh2:

Get YOUR facts straight.  Shortly after the second lineup change when James went into rehab they were unsure if they were ever going to tour again.. i.e. they were broken up.

You don't have to have a big blow out fight for a band to be considered broken up.  Anytime a band stops touring and they don't have any plans to tour in the forseeable future they are broken up.  Thus the "officially" bit.

Your opinions on the bands I mentioned are irrelevant.  First off their albums, generally speaking sold about as well after reforming as they did pre-breakup so quantifiably they are as good as they were before they broke up.  Secondly, those were just bands I was personally familiar with that I threw out there as examples.  The point was bands break up constantly and they constnatly come back just as strong.

Also you make the point that those sorts of bands don't evolve.  So?  That's considered being a  timeless classic.  You know, just like Beavis and Butthead, the subject we are SUPPOSED to be talking about.  They don't need to do anything new with the show.  The old formula was great so more of the same will do just fine.

Like most humans on this planet I enjoy music and have farily decent knowledge of the bands I follow.  I am by no means an expert on anything musically related.  On the other hand with you insulting my knowledge on the subject then you are suggesting that you are an expert in the music field..... I look forward to your new album.   :P

Regardless this isn't a debate about music, it's a debate about the new B&B.... I just used your musical example to show that your example pretty much proves the opposite of what you meant it to.

Thanks for playing!

I don't consider beavis and butthead a timeless classic, i consider it a dated fad

:dizzy: What? Who calls not touring to be officially broken up? Most every band does not constantly tour and have periods where they are not planning touring either. They will face an inevitable burnout if they are continually planning tours. Jeez, most bands I listen to right now would be, in your definition, broken up because they are not touring, nor scheduled to tour. Funny how a number of these bands manage to write albums when they are broken up as well.  :lol

No, youre not paying attention. I said it was difficult for a band like Journey to evolve. To some fans dismay, Metallica evolved completely. Take a look at bands like Megadeth that dont evolve, they get left on the wayside.

And why do you think the makers of Beavis and Butthead are basing on TV shows rather than music videos? You know why? Cause they dont even make videos anymore, and if they do, nobody sees them because MTV doesnt even play videos anymore. They dropped the "music television" from the network, its just MTV. If Beavis and Butthead was such a "timeless classic" as you have stated, they wouldnt have to change the format. So...they had to evolve. When you create something, you dont want to stick with the same old thing, its boring, Im sure Mike Judge wants to return to what put him on the map because a ton of stuff has happened since the series was cancelled, and now he has more money to play around with. Look at the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- South Park gets away with. Times have changed, and hopefully Mike Judge can take advantage of that.

What do you think bands do when they arent touring? They are writing new albums to release so they can go on tour again. Unless youre a huge band like Metallica, you dont NEED to go on tour, you can take a few years off, write the album, and then go on tour. Most bands have to tour in order to stay relevent, and make money.

Sure thing, Ill send you a copy when its finished. Look up a band called Battalion of Saints. Im the drummer for that band. My uncle George Anthony is the lead singer.

Youre so much better than everyone howard. Thank you for gracing this thread with your amazing insight. "Bands that arent on tour are broken up".  ::)
