Hiding Model 2 desktop and emulator windows on startup
« on: July 11, 2011, 05:25:50 pm »
Hi.

Title pretty much says it all.

Being trying to solve this under the general forum with Headkase's help, but can't achieve it.

Just want to go from Mala straight to the model 2 game without any M2/desktop/windows screens showing up.

Thanks

As always I encourage posting of Logs in DeBug mode to reduce the guess factors  ;)

Hi Loadman,

No bugs.....its working fine, I just don't want to see the Model 2 startup screen and associated window boxes prior to M2 game starting.

It's just a Arcade experiance killer.......

Purely a visual thing

Hope you can help :)

Hi thatgammon,

Sorry, but I don't understand.

Are you saying this is achievable with just some menu selections???

if so, can you please explain how?

Thanks

Try options, highlight model2 in otheremu config tab, execution tab, windows state -hidden

should hide all that. IF this is more complex than that, apologies..

Ok, took me a while to understand what you were saying...I was thinking about M2 emulator, but finally realised that you meant Mala.

Did what you said.

Under otheremu config tab, there was no Model 2...so i typed it in, setup the exe and rom path, and selected hidden state....but didn't work for me.

I'm guessing you can make it do it, so was wondering how you got M2 to show up in Mala...I did it SGT's way http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=68419.0

Any help greatly appreciated

"Just want to go from Mala straight to the model 2 game without any M2/desktop/windows screens showing up."

-is what you wrote so was thinking is what you wanted to do. Was your question just starting M2 on its own then in fullscreen?

If you didnt have m2 setup in mala already Im not sure what you wanted? Yeah will talk you through it if thats what you need..

let me know

Yes, already have M2 running in Mala. Just don't want to see any windows or Model 2 splash screen when I start Daytona/Sega Rally.

Would appreciate your help.

Thanks.

you may have a diff version of mala, under gui tab, mine says 'game start/ quit' so in urs may be diff
have a look around in there

your looking for that 'use fullscreen instead of window...etc check box.'

I think that will solve ya prob..

yes i think so..

i just reverted mine back to normal windows state and unchecked the starting window box and now the m2 window and splash screen appears.

Reverting back to above stops that. ok we're getting there. well i think so!!

When I select a game the get ready to play screen appears for a sec then goes str8 to the rom. No windows, nothing

I can make that happen on urs unless you dont want that get ready to play ting.

let me know..

That is exactly what I want. Select game......"get ready to play" ........ Then straight to the game..... No screens at all.

I hope we are getting somewhere.

Off to bed now. Will check in tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help to date.

Ok. Mala version 1 RC 9. Model 2 is by nebula version 0.9. Can't run version 1.0 as it displays in black and white.

Thanks again.  :)

ok i take it that is the spanish version 1.04 rc 5?

I would reccommend upgrading to a newer version if this is the case but Im sure it won't solve your issue here.

Model2 v1.0 is only a minor upgrade from 0.9 so am wondering if the fact that yours plays in monochrome has anything to do with this. Hmmm I will ponder.

OK one last thing before I have a look at your model2, if you select window state minimized what happens then?

Also what resolution is your desktop in?
your layout for mala in?
and resolution for games in model2 in??

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply....got called to work and was out of the country for 24 hours.

Anyway.....have now updated to the latest Mala....no changes.

Resolution...is 640 X 480 running on an Arcade Monitor.

State = minimized...same result.

I think the problem is in how m2 was intergrated into Mala. Like I said in an earlier post, I did it SGT's way, but I'm sure you did it differently, as you were asking about it in a different question...same result   but a different way of doing it.

When I went to "other emu" model 2 was not there, so I had to add it, then add the exe and rom paths...then select hidden.....I believe it's something to do with this part of Mala.

Under the command line for m2, did you use Quoated full path with extension??

Thanks again

Just a thought.

Thanks again

Have just seen sgt's method and that was compiling a batch file to run diff emus in one list. Now I get ya, this is why you didnt have it set up in other emu yeah? ok

my command line is %rom%

anything else doesn't work for me

Yeah I will send you the files if we cant work things out.

Although I wondering now if it is mala at all as hidden should hide the window.  :dunno

ok can you copy and paste your emulator settings file for model2 (just up to it says input)

also can you try model2 from mala without any fancy layouts ie from default layout. also screensaver off and no bg music??

Hi,

I think we might just be going in circles......

Do your M2 games show up in the standard MAME list or do you have to switch game lists (right click mouse and change lists).

Same result if I use no special features on Mala.

I think the best bet maybe for you to send me your complete Mala file (if your cool with that)  :)

Here is my M2 emulator file (had to change the extension to .txt to post here)

Thanks

Not circles, i am just trying to ascertain what you have done so far and eliminate problems.
(Your cfg file works on mine so has got to be Mala)

as i just said the method you are trying to accomplish is to get mutli emus in one list (sgts method). Using .bat file etc

Every emu I have has its own game list. (about 12 including MAME) I have configured joy left/right to switch emus, not to switch lists)
so there is no need for the use of the mouse.
Configure what keys you want to switch emus (this is off by default) so you may not of figured it)

IF you are tryin to achieve this with one games list, its something I can't do as I dont know about bat files etc.

But if you can get it to work on its own list then you can apply what you have learnt to sgts method after.

From a bat file I can imagine the quoted rom would be nessasary but on its own the command line is %rom%, and this could be something to do with it.

Model 2 own emu and games list
%rom% windows state hidden.

Not sure what  files to send , but I tell you what, send me your files as Im interested in what you have done and I'll have a look at it no probs.
I will not beaten by this!!    :badmood: :laugh2:

Ok.

Well that is the problem. I didn't realise that you were using multiple lists. Yes I have it all in one list.

I know nothing about setting this stuff up, all I did was follow SGT's method.

Will send files when I get home in a few hours.

I have to have them all in one list, as this is in a dedicated car racing machine. Left and right steering wheel is used to select games, so can't swap lists.

Fingers crossed we can solve this, it's a real arcade experience killer having the windows boxes showing up!!

Cheers

no prob. It will help me out as I want to learn how to put 2/3 emus in to one list, so it might be a mutual learning curve.

Send us an email or something.. peace
