Examples.......Bad links!!!
« on: July 11, 2003, 11:33:05 am »
Hi,

We may have 685 projects listed on the examples page however when I was looking though them a few weeks back quite a good number of them are bad links of the page is no longer up.

I think it would be a good idea to go though them all and remove all those dead links.

If one of the admins likes this idea I would be willing to go though the pages myself and list all bad links so they can be removed.

Thanks

Gary

The examples with bad links are kept up so that the original authors can easily update the link, or optionally a user who knows the new url can find it and have it fixed.  Sadly, many of the classic examples (which were of a higher quality imho)  are gone for good.  :(

Let's say I wanted to update the link to my project on the examples page, is there an automatic way to do that?  When I finish moving to my new web host I don't want there to be another bad link!

To me it looks like the submit project form would add another copy rather than update my current one.  I emailed saint about the new url yesterday, do you think that'll suffice?

Later,
J

I submitted a URL change via E-mail ages ago and the fix still hasn't been made. Howard, how can we update our own projects pages?  I'm too stupid to figure it out.... :(

You send an email to one of the admins and they will change it.

I'm slow these days but I think I have all the URL changes up to date on the examples that have been submitted, except for the last day or so...

Saint -

I doubt that.  I emailed you and PM'd you regarding my new URL, and it's still the same.

The only reason the old URL resolves is because recently I had a hosting problem, and had to put the old site back up momentarily.

Don't know what I did there, but it's fixed now.  Anyone else I've missed please remind me.

I sent them this link on the 14th
http://www.ebold.com/~spamme/results.html

and I got this reply:
Eek, I knew it was bad but not that bad.  I went through the first 50
links tonight, will try to get the rest in chunks over the next couple
of weeks.  Thanks for the reminder
