best overall 25" or 27" mame arcade crt monitor?
« on: May 19, 2009, 12:38:06 pm »
the ones I can actually seem to find for sale are

wells gardner D9800
http://www.wgec.com/products/details.asp?iCat=2&iSubCat=47

betson multi sync regular
http://www.betson.com/products/IMP-44-4070-RT

betson multi sync dyna flat
http://www.betson.com/products/parts/IMP-44-4070-DF

billabs BL27C90T
http://www.arcade-equipment.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=263_271&products_id=4199

anyone know the pros and cons of these?  my brother has a billabs BL27CBOPU
that seems like a nice monitor, I was able to run vga from an xbox 360 @ 720p and the picture looked great, I didn't think the monitor would support that resolution but it appears it does.  I would probably order one if they were available anywhere.  at this point I'm leaning towards the betson flatscreen model, I tried the xbox at 640X480 and it still looked pretty good so it would work in my MAME/X360 cabinet I'm planning.

anyone know of any other 25" or 27" multi sync monitors that will do 720P?

I have a 27in Makvision (Wei-ya) monitor in one of my cabs that I have run mame on before. I am very happy with it, color and picture are very nice, tri-sync enabled so its good for 32khz 640x480 from the get go. I highly recommend, got mine from Twisted Quarter:

If you are in North America and are interested in a tri-res....and will  run Mame in 31Khz. Send me an e-mail with an address.
Or standard res using an AVGA, and leaving in CGA
As long as the address can receive a shipment via transport truck and does not need lift gate service, I can probably beat most pricing.
If not then if you can p/u at the nearest Fed Ex Freight terminal, we are still good.

Having said all that, keep in mind price is not always everything. We build them here we service and support them here.

tcle, you really need to understand what Rickn is implying in his post. Key words: digital - analog. Then you need to look up both those monitors here. Lot's of commentary.

I have this betson monitor and so far I like it.  It was purchased from the betson store in southern CA.  They also have a small showroom with a few different games on free play.  This way I saved on shipping.  Paid $400 for it if I recall correctly.

I wonder if the monitors people have had issues with are from the sales Betson has had....

Hmmm. Doesn't say how much, and doesn't even have an accurate picture of it. That's a 19" monitor. Billabs site is still up....I think.....um yeah, and those are available there.

Rick,

Do you ship to APO military via USPS?

I have a mame machine in a MVS-Neo Geo cab that will support a 25" monitor. What CRT of yours is best for connection to an Ulitimarc Arcade VGA?
Ms. Pacman Original Cocktail with Non destructive mod to Groovy Arcade Linux with All 4way Vertical Cocktail capable 2 button or less games.

jtslade or Rick,

Any word about APOs?

I am looking for a SVGA 27" too, but I worry if it can make it to Germany in one piece through the APO.

Does anyone know if the Beston 27" is still available?  It's still on their site, but....

Are there any people here from Germany that can recommend a vendor that got them theirs in one piece, APO or otherwise?

I have a 27" kortek laying around, it's try-sync and will even do 800x600@60hz, cool stuff. But, picture quality wise, it's garbage compared the Nanao 29" in my blast city cab. It's like night and day. if you are building a cabinet and considering a 27" tube, do yourself a favor and build a slightly larger cab and find a Nanao crt. It only does 480p max, but it's try-sinc and every console has a VGA out adapter available. ( I run a PC and dreamcast that cab. )

Good luck finding one though.

The 27" Kortek and the 29" Nanao are probably the same size.  The 27" size is the USA size (measures the "viewable" area) while the 29" measure is the Japanese size (measures the total glass face area).  I bet they're both A68xxxx style tubes, if you check.

The picture quality on those Korteks out of the box does indeed suck.  If you properly adjust them, they're pretty good, though.  I'd say it's close to or even on par with the high-end Toshiba and Mitsubishi monitors in my Japanese cabs as well as the Nanaos in my friend's Daytona USA cabinets and my Sanwa 29PFX monitors.  The geometry can be a bit suspect, sometimes, but this is true of almost all dynaflat/pureflat tubes.
