Custom Joystick Controls
« on: September 12, 2003, 10:50:03 am »
Is there a way to select a particular joystick function WITHIN A GAME, rather than for the entire MAME/ADVMAME? I'm trying to get a foot pedal working.

In AdvanceMame, I can select a particular axis on a particular joystick in the advmame.rc settings file, but then I lose the ability to use a button for gas.  I noticed in the Input(this game) menu for Pole Position, next to Dial it has "J:Stick:x-" and "left", which means I can either use my steering wheel or the analog joystick.

Is there a way for me to have it say next to "P1 Pedal 1", "lcontrol" and "j:Stick:Y+" so I can still use the keyboard & the foot pedal?

BTW, if it's significant, I've tried directly hooking the potentiometer in the foot pedal to the game port pins, and tried a Microsoft Sidewinder Dual Strike joy.  Both don't work unless I change the settings file for AdvMame.

thanks

Stupid, stupid me.  To reply to my own post:
I had no idea I could move a joystick when editing the input for a game control & it would recognize it.  I had assumed that only keys could be entered.

I just tried moving the Y axis of the joy while editing the pedal input & it worked!

sorry.
