Texas Pinball Festival this weekend - anyone going?
« on: March 22, 2011, 11:56:01 pm »
I'm planning on going out to the Texas Pinball Festival this weekend with my son.  Planning on being there Friday afternoon, but may not be able to make it until Saturday morning.

Anyone else planning on going?

:O  Are you going to have it turned on?  I'd love to stop by and play if there isn't one on the show floor.

Yes, it will be on and playing. It's the only one that's going to be at the show, afaik.

Stop by the Coin Taker LEDs/Doc's Pinball booth

The history of pinball seminars is more important than you might think, these people are trying to keep younger people interested.
As for the men.... Well that"s just fun!!!!!

My son and I are here.  We didn't pre-reg, so we are just hanging out in the front.  I'm wearing my grey Pawn Stars shirt.  Feel free to yell at me if you see me.

Went to the swap meet this am. Kind of a downer, there just wasn't much there.

Went back in the afternoon for the main game room. That was a different story, several vendors there with lots of parts, bits and pieces, plus a TON of good games (pins and vids). Had a blast.

The widebody we played last year wasn't there, so my daughter was bummed, but she found the star trek shooting game and that made up for it.

Plus (and this surprised me), she was +really+ getting into a sitdown Stargate. That freakin' game is HARD. Fun but hard.

I did, however find a williams tilt bob and mount(edit: at least I think it's a real Williams, it's got a W stamp in it...). Got em home an polished them and it ends up the rod and mount are brass. They look really good. The bob itself is some kind of slag metal, but it looks good with the polished brass. That'll have to find a place somewhere!

I went to the TPF this past weekend.  Pretty good show overall, I would say, although I've never been to any others, so I can't really compare it.  The only disappointing thing is that quite a few machines spent a lot of time being down or had flipper issues (at least the machines I was interested in), but with the volume of people playing, I suppose this is to be expected (well, at least the down time is, I imagine).

Their arcade game selection seems to grow just a little bit every year, but again, down time and control quality are always an issue.  Tried to enjoy playing an upright Stargate, but the stick was very flaky, just like the cocktail Defender they had last year and then the Tempest they had was down and out quite a bit, until it was sold and moved out early.  Oh well...
