Anyone interested in building a control panel for me?
« on: March 17, 2011, 02:54:06 pm »
I have purchased an arcade cabinet that someone else had modified to a mame cabinet.  The cabinet itself is in great shape and it has a brand new WG9200 monitor, so I feel like I got a good deal.

However, I hate the graphics and the control panel is lacking a spinner and trackball.  So, I am looking to replace the control panel and controls.  I am not a wood worker, just one of those things that never turns out well for me.

I am looking to hire someone to build me a control panel (I can install and wire controls, just need the woodworking done).  I want to purchase a new overlay and marquee graphic for the cabinet, so if you could send me a file I could use for ordering that, or whatever I would need... that would be a big help.

I don't have a lot of budget, but would be willing to pay about the same it would cost me to order a kit from mameroom, etc.

Thanks.

Brett

The base the control panel sits on is 20.5" x 9".

I have gotten a few other projects out of the way and I am ready to get back to work on this project.  I am looking for a new control panel top pre-routed and drilled to add a trackball and spinner.  Ideally, I would like to just mount it onto the base I already have.  Although, I am interested if anyone is looking to sell a completed panel that would work for me.

Thanks.

Kneivel helped me out with mine.  I don't know if he still does it for side cash or not, but I would send him a message if I were you.  His work is top notch.  I couldn't be happier.

His email is on this page: http://knievel.webs.com/

Actually, I love it!  What are the dimensions roughly so I can see if it will fit on my cabinet?  Would you also have a matching file I could use to order an overlay graphic?

I would definitely go with a more seasoned member of the forums like Yaksplat than the guy who offered to do it for you that has 4 posts...

Sounds great.  Couple of questions.

Could we do just one spinner?

I assume you need to know what controls I will be using to make the correct insets?  I have two magstick plus joysticks I want to use and I am flexible on the rest.  What is the template set up for?  I know I want to illuminate the pushbuttons and trackball..

How much would you need?

I can remove any of the holes that you dont want.

If you look at some of the posts on my blog, you'll see all of the controls that i used.  I have back mounted the magsticks and it works out quite well.  I'll use wood inserts to make the joysticks easily attached and inclued all of the screws and washers needed to mount them. The trackball that I used is a standard happ using this mounting plate.

My template assumes 1-1/8" holes for all buttons, except a 3/4" hole for the lock in the top and a 5/8" hole for a power switch.  Either of these can be removed or the sizes changed if desired.

The button pattern is 7 buttons for each player, 2 for the track ball as mouse buttons, 5 admin buttons, and 1 start button for each player.

3" mounting plate on this page.

Including the matching piece of plexiglass, the total would be $160 + actual shipping via fedex which I'll need to get a quote on.

Sounds good.  I am actually wanting to have a credits button, but I believe I will mount that hidden on the underside of the control panel.  Shipping will be to 47274.

Also, I got a little lost.. are we talking about just the top piece and plexi cover or the base for the control panel as well.  If we aren't talking about the base, how much would you charge to go ahead and include the base as well?  That way I will have no construction on my end at all.
