Mala layout moves?
« on: March 31, 2011, 08:56:55 am »
okay, so im a very new at this, but im experienced with pc's, emulators, and importantly GAMES. I finally figured out how to get all my game lists to match the current games i have (Mame was tricky, romlister ftw though), and i also got it to where when i switch to a different emulator i get a different layout for it and i get the romlist specific to that emulator. Okay, so ill be running these emulators Mame, Nes, Snes, Sega Gen, and Sega Master System (for now), im just starting to work with making my own menu tree, but im having an issue before i can even get to that.

I set everything perfectly in Layout Editor, but when i run mala...it seems to move my videos and snaps, even if i try to compensate my moving them higher in the Mala Layout Editor the snaps and videos remain where they are, ive tried "keep aspect ratio.." blah blah and still nothing. Ive tried moving them on complete different sides in the Layout Editor and the video/snaps stay where they are, and yes i turned mala off and turned it on, in case it wasnt refreshing. Im really stuck, im thinking it could be a resolution problem?, but i really dont know and i dont want to mess anything up as placement of files is key in Mala etc.

Anyone have any ideas? or any solutions?

*pics below to show what they look like on my screen, the In Mala pic, the top "image" is the video that plays, and bottom one is my snap*

btw: i have other questions, but theyre extremely minor compared to this issue im having

Never seem that before but try saving your background image as a different image type, in case the resize is busted?  :dunno

I've had this issue before.

Short answer: try making your images boxes a little smaller.

Long answer: you can make your image boxes various sizes - but the resolution of the image type (distinguished from file type) used will affect the size at run-time. I'm guessing Mala tries to pick the best, I'm assuming largest, size it can, which probably conflicts with the sizes of the image boxes. 'Keep aspect' means it will not stretch the image, which for some reason doesn't affect all image types, nor all games.

Great information, and thanks for the fast reply. Im not sure what fixed it, but i changed 3 things, maybe someone else is having this issue so ill say what i did. First i saved the image background as a gif to see if that made a difference, it didnt..i think. Then i checked my screen resolution, realizing its at 1280 x800, i changed my image from 1280x960 to 1280x800 to match. Tried that...no luck yet. So i checked scaling in the Mala Layout Editor, i noticed i had it set on free, and i remembered (dumb me) that my laptop is a widescreen laptop *16:9*, so i chose 16:10 scaling in Layout>Scaling in the editor, and whaddya know...works like a charm. Thanks again i really do appreciate the fast reply and great help.

Now i have some other small questions, but before i post anything, should i just post in this topic?, or make a new one so others who might have the same issue can find it a bit easier?(i.e. Google etc)

regards,
MuNcH ;D

Your solution is of a similar kind.

I would start a new thread.
