Question about coin mechs...
« on: August 20, 2003, 11:42:59 pm »
I was debating whether to use quarter mechs for a really neat piggy bank or a token mech so people don't think I'm actually charging them to play.

I was browsing Happs and noticed that one of their coin mechs was described as .984 Token & U.S. ($.25).

Just so I'm understanding this: does that mean that this mech can take either a plain ole token or a standard American quarter without internal adjustments?  Like can I use a token one minute and then slap in a quarter a second later?

I know it sounds like a really dumb question but I've misread product information before with hilarious and/or tragic results.

If you really want to use both tokens and quarters I would recommend the Imonex coin mechs (Happ Part #42-6901-00).  These work flawlessly (I love them).  I even moved the little triangle restrictor so they can take Chuck E. Cheese tokens too (they are larger than a quarter).

only problem is, you'll have to sort the tokens from the quarters periodically...

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to get a mech to take quarters and reject tokens back to the coin return trays.  If I get mine to do that, I'm going to mod the top of the mech with a replacement trigger.  Coins will trigger the coin switch as they enter the slot, then quarters will drop to the piggy bank and tokens will return to the tray for re-use.

Currently, the mechs pass quarters down fine, but the tokens lodge halfway through and don't return to the tray until I press the reject button.    :(

I've got a bunch of those Imonex mechs for .900.  See the 'For Sale/Trade' forum for that thread.

Yeah I thought about having to do the seperation but I figured the only time I'd really use tokens is when guests come by.

But I looked at the Imonex and it looks really good.  No moving parts, which to me means less for me to accidentally mess up.

And thansk Peale I'll take a look at what you've got.
