I have told you exactly what I know about the machine.  :)  I got an email about it.

For giggles, let's assume that the volume level is fine, but it suddenly stopped.

Its my opinion with the information provided that the sound is faulty

the doohicky that makes the sound is fnarked replace to fix

Let's also assume that if I can take it here to work on it, it'll fit in my basement.

This article mentions that a common problem of no sound is a failed voltage regulator on the sound board itself allowing -12V to be passed to some chips that need -5V, causing them to fail as well.
