Odyssey 2 - No Video - Help Please
« on: December 27, 2010, 03:11:26 pm »
http://puttheglasseson.com/consoles/odyssey2/repair/index.html

I have reseated IC5 and IC7.  I bypassed the RF Modulator by connecting RCA Connectors.

It turns on, plays sound, the game plays, but I get no video at all.

Video connects to C44 which is right off of Pin 5 on the Video Encoder.  I found that this works on other websites.

Any ideas?

Done any component checking on the video circuit?  Did the thing work before you modded it?

No and No

Not yet, I gotta pull a lot of them off the board in order to test many of them...
I got a service manual with the specs.  Cant find a good troubleshooting guide for the thing.

There probably isn't a good troubleshooting guide.

I would undo the mod and get it working first.  You can use RCA->coax adapters with old systems like that in place of the tv switchbox.  That does away with the need for a mod if you have a tv with coax in.  On these really old ones this is the order I usually follow:

1)  Google
2)  Replace all electrolytics
3)  Reflow solder in the questionable circuit
4)  Shotgun the questionable circuit
5)  Deem it a parts machine

Well the main reason i modded it in the first place was to bypass the RF Modulator in order to see if it was bad...  and since it still isnt working the RF Modulator is probably is fine.  I gotta go out of town for the rest of the month so I'll wont get to fool with it much any time soon.
