Lazydaze's First Mame Build
« on: January 22, 2011, 11:23:08 pm »
Hi All,

First time post. I have recently come into possesion of a old non working cab from my wifes work. Currently on boot this machines shows the bios perfectly, then the image distorts and shows two images.. I can barely make out a no boot rom found error on the screen

I am looking to convert this to a mame machine however I have some questions.

Firstly - Graphics

I have a nanao ms8-26A monitor in the cabinet. From the reading I have done so far, it seems I need the following to get it working for MAME

1) Ultimarc video card (for 15hz capable output) and
2) Amplifier to transform 1v signal into 5v signal

3) Then i would need to wire a cable into the 5 pin signal I currently see running to the monitor.

Does that sound correct? Is there anything I have missed.

Is there any way of determining if the monitor is ok before making these purchases? I would rather not have to buy a specific card to find out the monitor is dead...

Secondly - Controls

At the moment I am struggling to determine the best approach for the controls. the cab already has a great control panel for my needs... all i really want to do at this point is to convert the existing controls into the mame pc.

Iv attached some picture of the wiring looms.. it seems players 3 and 4 are wired into a seperate pcb board which is inputting into the jamma board. Payers 1 and 2 and wired into the original board.

My question is.. what is the best method of converting this to a pc input? Does anyone have any recommendations.. I would rather not have to rewire the whole board, when it clearly is already wired up pretty well.. all buttons and sticks seems to be in ok nick...

All help is appreciated..

Thanks

Ultimarc's J-PAC and ArcadeVGA should take care of both your questions.

Monitor adjustments may take care of your image. If not, possible cap kit.

thanks Nephasth..

I understand the Jpac will provide amplification however will it provide the support for all the buttons for the cab? or do I need to get an additional i pac as well to support?

Player 1 - 6 buttons
Player 2 - 6 buttons
Player 3 - 3 buttons
Player 4 - 4 buttons

4 buttons for credits

4 Sticks

or and on the ultimarc is there old cards available in agp.. i could only see the pci express on the site.. which isnt going to fit my machine...

Thanks Again

You will need an additional ipac to build a 4 player CP.

Why does player 3 have 3 buttons and player 4 have 4 buttons?
