how to exit kega
« on: December 15, 2010, 03:02:02 pm »
Im running mala 1.71 with mame 1.36, stella, and kega fusion as the emulators. I have no problem exiting out of mame and stella games back to the mala front end. I cant seem to find a way to get out of kega fusion to get back to the front end. I have to keep right clicking on the mouse and exit that way. Is there another way? I also am using an X-arcade joystick with this, dont know if that really matters.....maybe there is a controller ini file for this?

probably set up something like AutoHotkey to send an Alt-F4 when press some designated combination like P1 Start + P2 Start

I would of thought hotkeys would be the way to go on Kega to exit.

Other Emu / Settings - Use hot keys.

But after looking at my setup i haven't used em.

Execution = "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" -fullscreen

Works fine. (ESC is quit)

Other EMU config tab
Highlight what you called your KEGA emu.
Execution tab

Put
"%path%\%rom%.%ext%" -fullscreen
in to command line

Try that I might of changed the .cfg file to do something I cant remember.
That works with mine.

well as i said, mine works so I am sure I can help you fix it if you stay with it.

Other emu config/options/use hotkeys
esc to close

Mine hasn't got that so I'm suggesting that might work OR tell me what happens if it dont.

As I said I MAY of changed the.cfg file to do something.

Also what are you using with KEGA, master system, genesis etc. That might be a factor

And what version of kega are you running?

Ok I downloaded Kega fusion 3.6 again so i am setting it up with the original settings (You may of changed something)
In mala, named the emu, pointed to the .exe and rom directory.

"%path%\%rom%.%ext%" -fullscreen

typed that in to the command line and it works a treat. (escape is quit)

tried this as well...

Other emu config/select your emu/options/use hotkeys
add hotkey (close) = ESC

Works using this method also.

The only thing I can think of is, Is Kega running fullscreen? If not then esc might not work, and yeah alt f4 prob is the only way from there.
But with the default kega settings, seems to work.

Let me know. (try the 2nd method, that must work)

Can you explain more?

Does Kega launch in fullscreen?

Did you download kega again (like I did) and try a new setup? Because I know it works with the default settings (which you may of changed)

Does escape exit your other emulators?

No problem mate!
We're close I can smell it!!!

Some1 else will benefit from this also.

When you download kega again, keep the original folder (use a different name for the new 1) as to compare.

Follow my previous steps and could you tell me what exactly happens when you hit esc (if it don't work)

Well thats good  ;)

ok i dont have an x arcade. Does pressing those two buttons exit the other emulators then?

You mean there is no exit button on the x arcade?

ok no not in kega.

download autohotkey and you can tell it to catch a combo of key presses to make an output, say
esc or alt f4. That would work.

I cant advise you on that cos i dont use it.

Well we got kega up and running, sorry couldnt be more help

I got exactly the same problem...and seemed so strange, because i use mala on 2 different pcs, one on my desktop pc, and other on my cabinet...(Windows 7 64bits)

After reinstalling Mala 1.74 on boths pcs, on the desktop one, all goes well, kega exits when i press ESC key, but when i try on my cabinet...it didnīt work...strange, cause both pcs use exactly the same config...just the same config that user  "thatgammon " has told on this post.

After investigating i solved the problem...and the problem (i think) was ATi Catalist center starting with windows, a few days ago i updated my card drivers and seem that ati catalyst auto configured to start with windows...

I went to star menu, tipped on windows search box this:

MSCONFIG

...and press return

A new window will open where you can see what programs are executing in windows start, i have no program checked, unless mala (on cabinet)...and yes, ati catalyst was checked too (cause i reintalled card drivers)...i unchecked the box, restarted windows and all goes well, Kega exits normally pressing ESC key (1p+2p button on my cabinet).

Hope this help someone.
