See now this is what Stern's pins should look like in order to attract fresh new players. Making them look the same as classic 80's pins just ensures they appeal mostly to nostalgic guys over 35.

I'd like to agree with this because I like the Pinball 2000 style cab, but lots of people hate it.

Don't mean to get too far off the topic, but don't underestimate the power of something classic as an attraction. Harley Davidson spent hundreds of millions creating a cutting edge version of their V-Twin, even contracting Porsche for the engine design.
The resulting bike (V-Rod) is a great bike, but not the blockbuster success Harley expected.

People kept buying the old air cooled, vibrating Harleys in record numbers. I think Stern knows that the tried and true classic layout sells, and all the new companies like Jersey Jack and Popadiuk are also sticking to that formula.

Question for those that hate it is why? I would think it's more around the 2 games or the arcade/pinball interaction. Not about the layout. If you ever have the chance to play one in this configuration ( dmd reflecting down) forge about arfm,ep1 it's a much nicer experience.

The most common complaint I saw is that the playfield feels too small. I think that is mostly an illusion caused by the monitor housing though. When you see the Pinball2000 playfields out of the machine, they're pretty close in size to a standard one.

you are correct, a std playfield is 42" long, a p2k playfield is 43" long so it can only be the illusion created by the reflection/interaction.

with mine the dmd reflects on the glass beyond the playfield..

anyway irrelevant give we are talking apples and oranges with a real pin vs virtual.

Funny you should mention Harleys TOK, because around here, the only people I see riding Harleys look like they just retired.

Yep, the V-Rod was gonna change that. Pin2000 was going to change pinball. Neither happened.
I don't wanna crap up macattack's thread with the discussion, it was just an analogy about how sometimes re-inventing the product doesn't bring the coveted "new audience".
