Is it possible and how to search for keywords within a certain thread ?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Whatever browser you're using should have a search in page function.  In windows, its Ctrl + F.  For mac, not sure what the shortcut would be, but try the menu.

I think the OP was asking if you can search for a word in the entire thread, not just the current page of it.  Imagine trying to find the term 'polish' in Pixelhugger's 37 page Mission Control thread.  Using the method above you'd have to page forward 36 times and search each page using the ctrl+f.

I would greatly welcome a native SMF 'search this thread' feature.

I just select "show all pages" of the thread before using cmd-F or the pc' equivalent.

Big enough threads don't have the "show all pages" feature. Not sure what the cutoff is.

Also, I have FIOS so that would be OK for me, but I suspect the dial-up/DSL people might feel differently.

37 pages of graphic-laden posts is a lot of bits.

Sorry, I didn't realise that! I'm lucky having a fast connection too so this method was ok for me. Any way of you changing the cutoff?

I default to google when I'm in this situation. For example, search terms of "polish pixelhugger Mission Control site:forum.arcadecontrols.com"

Yields this.

I looked but didn't see that it was something I could set. I'm hoping it's one of the things tweaked/fixed in 2.x of the forum when they come out with it.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a setting for the amount of pages that can be opened at once. However, if bandwidth is a concern what-so-ever, you might want to keep this capped. Think of the cheesecake thread, for example.

Bandwidth's not an issue :) I'll see if I can find that setting.
