Wells Gardner U5000 27"
« on: September 14, 2010, 08:25:57 am »
Hi

I just found a new U5000 27 inch monitor which I was thinking of installing in either my mortal kombat or MAME cabinet.

I do not know much about it.  Is it a good monitor, and will it be compatible with mortal kombat games?

regards

Rodney

the u5000 was plauged with a mutitude of problems, due to bad design and/or faulty components. There are some repair/upgrade kits that you can order to fix the problems these monitors have with their power supply and the horizontal/vertical sweep. these monitors where replaced with the k7500.

the tubes are not great, they get dim to the point where no amount of adjustment can get a good picture. so if the tube is good, and if it's free or super cheap, it could be an okay monitor. be aware though the unit is a medium resolution display only (some where switchable to standard (maybe that was the k7500) the board will have a plug you can move.)
as mortal kombat was standard res.

A U5000 is switchable from med res to std res.
A K7500 is medium res.
A K7400 is standard res.

U5000's are okay.  They did have their problems but at least they are well documented on  repairs.
