possible minor video bug in 1.701 - Fixed
« on: September 02, 2010, 05:47:51 pm »
When using the emu movies for previews, it feels like MaLa is not closing the .avi file and releasing the file handle.

To test it - select an item with a preview movie, let it start, then select a different game from the list which starts a diff movie. Leave MaLa open, and using Windoze, try to delete the first .AVI file - it is no longer active in MaLa, but you can't delete it without quitting MaLa first.

can anyone else verify this on your install?

Yes I can   ;D

FYI:I use a wrapper for video handling, but I might be able to change the behavior of it.

Is this a real issue for you?  Are you worried about a memory leak?

no, it's very minor, I just wanted to make note of it in case you were not aware.

I was in the process of loading the emu movies for the games I have installed and ran into a few that were bogus (like Side by Side 2). Further investigation on MAWS showed that the game was unplayable, so I removed the game from the game list and then tried to delete the avi file - that's when I found it. I've run into it a half dozen times so far - now I just quit MaLa before attempting to delete the AVI

Some may be wondering why I'm going to all that trouble - sometimes I do too - it is a very time consuming way to do a MAME machine. This HD is only 189 GB and room is starting to get tight (< 15 GB free), so I'm trying to use only those files I need to support the games in my list.

I can feel a hole developing in my pocket as I fear I'm gonna just have to bite the bullet and buy a bigger HD, lol
