trouble with some marquees
« on: September 01, 2010, 04:17:01 pm »
hi all - been lurking here for a few days. I'm happy with MaLa - thanks for doing this!! :applaud:

I am tweaking minor annoyances that have been bugging me and I'm not sure where to start chasing this issue - need some pointers please.

Using MaLa 1.7 with a layout that displays marquees. The marquees display for most games, but there is one we play a lot that it will not even attempt to load the marquee.

the game is Do! Run Run, ROM name is dorunrun, I have a png file in the marquee folder named dorunrun.png, but the image will not show up.

I put MaLa in debug mode and there are no entries in the log file for it even attempting to load the marquee for that game. But, if I step down the game list to the next game (Mr Do!) it loads the marquee and there are appropriate entries in the log file showing that.

So my question is - what would cause MaLa to not even attempt to load a marquee file?

I tried updating my game lists - no joy there.

tia,
kp

If you post the section of log (a page before dorunrun and after) that would help otherwise we are guessing.

Have you tried converting png to jpg and removing png?

Here's the log from earlier today - -please ignore the load video calls - I am ahead of myself here - I had this showing snaps, but decided to try the videos, but I am still only 88% downloaded on that torrent, so that part is not working yet.

In this log, I loaded Mala with debug active - Do! Run Run was the active menu item and did not attemp to "LoadPicture". I then stepped down the game list to Mr. Do! and got the lines for

2010/09/01  14:58:11.03   Debug **: DisplayMarquee:
2010/09/01  14:58:11.04   Debug **: LoadPicture: C:\emulators\programs\mame\marquees\mrdofix.png
2010/09/01  14:58:11.07   Debug **: DisplayCPanel:

After that, I stepped back up to Do! Run Run and still got no LoadPicture line for that game.

My concern was maybe because it was the first item loaded - but stepping down and back up should alleviate that concern - so maybe because it's the first item in the list?

I can test that theory as well as the JPG versus PNG one - will post back.

Here's the log file

I can test that theory as well as the JPG versus PNG one - will post back.

But all the other marquees that do show up properly are PNG files so not sure that's the issue. I did read something in another thread about color depth maybe being an issue, so I will check that as well.

Yes please try that ,

but you may have found a bug there.

So the first item in the gamelist ehh?

If it is the bug I am thinking it might be then in this scenario it also :
- Would not matter if you changed the PNG to JPG or swapped it with know good PNG and renamed it.
- Would not Display ControlPanel or any set Definable picture either.
