Getting Mala to exit Atari800WinPlus
« on: August 14, 2010, 02:16:38 am »
It took a while but I got Atari800WinPlus working.  Getting actual roms takes time since the usual paths do not yield valid rom files.  So after alot of snooping, I found that atariage hosts them.

Anyways, my issue.  I got escape hotkeyed to exit Atari800WinPlus.  It works as expected except that Atari800WinPlus has a confirmation dialog (Are you sure you want to exit? OK/Cancel) that prevents it from closing fully.  Is there any way to over-ride this?

Nevermind ... I had to find that stupid "confirm exit" checkbox.  Duhhhhh

Happy to have my childhood emulated!  Not that I don't already have 3 actual 5200s with trackball.  I need new joysticks though.

I also have Atari800 working on my cab (after a lot of headache) and use the Mala built in ESC wrapper to exit.  Have you found a way to easily load and exit .atr images?  The only format I can get to start and exit easily are .xex

I found a bunch here...

Alley Cat, Blue Max, Archon - all great with arcade controls :)

I only have Atari 5200 games working.  If your inquiry is in regard to this, I can help you out.

I am using the latest Atari800WinPlus (not Atari800).  What I did was set hte Mala hot key to Alt-F4 instead of escape.  So when escape is pressed, Mala catches it and sends an Alt-F4 command to Atari800WinPlus thus closing the application.  Atari800WinPlus had a confrim exit dialog that you can turn off from within the Atari800WinPlus options.

As for getting ROMS working, I went to an atari specific web site that hosts actual rom images.  I can link it later.  Those work perfectly.  Within Atari800WinPlus, I am going to have to convert those files to cart files.  That way I can avoid the cart hardware selection dialog since cart files store that data.  Atari800WinPlus can convert roms to cart format.  If you are trying to emulate other Atari 8-bit hardware, you might be able to do something like this.  Unfortunately, only the 5200 is on my todo list.

Yes, I am also using Atari800Winplus, but I am using it exclusively for the 8-bit atari games, many of which were on disk which is where the cabinet friendly load/quit problems arise.  I did convert rom files to cart too for a while to get around that kb? confirm box you mentioned, but I found using the .xex images was the easiest solution, and most of the games I wanted to play were already in that format at the link I pasted.  Funny, the mala check box that asks to use 'esc' as exit works fine for me without having to hot key alt-f4.

Atarimania is a great resource if you haven't been there, and has a wealth of 5200 stuff.
