Astech Touch Screen Monitor
« on: August 09, 2010, 03:21:31 am »
Hi

Ive just won this touch screen monitor on ebay for a cheap price.
Its described as an industrial 15" touchscreen monitor (model astech).
It has the following specifications:

15" LCD Flat Screen Monitor
VGA Connection
Power adaptor connection
Composite video connection
RS232 Serial Touchscreen port
Front mounted touch controls to access Menu, Power, Source and Up and Down buttons
Metal surround and standard industrial mountings
VESA compatible mounting

However im having trouble finding any drivers or info on this model. I cant even seem to find a company. It has no power supply either. Is it worth getting this or shall i leave it?
I was intending to use it to make a jukebox.

This is what the seller says
"it displayed a superb image at 1024 * 768 resolution so is suitable for the hobbyist/specialist to use as either an industrial hot spare or a PC display."

So i guessed id be able to run a pc on it but i dont think it will be any good unless i can get a driver for it.
Im hoping i can just get a universal supply to it.

What you think

Do you have a picture of the unit?   There is a company called ASTECH that is involved in assistive technology software for use on touchscreens.   It is very likely the touchscreen was not built by them and could be a common unit such as a serial elo.

Have you tried just the standard MS Serial mouse driver?

If it's a serial port, that might be all you need. Not sure how you'd calibrate that, but....

It will most likely use either ELO or 3M Microtouch serial microcontroller drivers.
Neither of which should be a problem to find once it can be identified.

The power supply shouldn't be too big a problem either, should say right on it somewhere what voltage is required, then just match up the proper size jack to plug into it.

Post some pics when you get it or maybe post a link to the auction itself.
