Is it just me or does that "gun" look more like a cordless drill than an Operation Wolf gun?   ;) ;) ;)

it is not you.
I was bolting some parts together, and left it there. When I noticed, I tought it would make a funny picture.

On a side note, I am glad I took the front out.

1- it wouldn't have gotten in my basement otherwise.
2- it would simply have taken too much space.

My staircase isn't compatible with having big things downstairs, really.  :-\

The cab is *almost* done now.

-Computer is in place, needs a bit of config.
-I hacked a powerbar to use the ON/OFF switch that's on top of the cab; uses it for powering monitor, marquee and audio amp.
-audio outputs from the computer into a homemade 6W amp. The volume is loud and clear. Still uses the stock speakers!
-the kids love it!

Looks like the 'big kid' is also enjoying the cab too ;)
Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

Yep.
But hey, she's the one who requested we get a gameroom of some sort to start with, who am I to complain she plays the machine more then I do?

Now... I have some audio lag, I hope I can optimize settings, I was hoping to keep the athlon1800+ in there.

Thanks!

I was initially planing for a 4-player, but when I saw how classic the cab was looking without the gun section, I changed my mind. Having it in a red-brown dye also wasn't part of my original plans, but I just felt it looked great that way.  (soooo.... its the cab's fault if it looks great. the design just came to me while working on the cab.  :dizzy: )

I am currently working on the sideart, making a Space Invaders scene. I was hoping to do that before taking more detailed pics.

Won't be too long... stay tuned  ;) :lol

A decent first conversion. My one suggestion would be to try and boost the monitor up a touch more, then create a more suitable bezel by either peeling off the existing one bonded to the glas and getting a proper new vinyl one cut, or creating a simple mountboard piece to properly hide the edges of the monitor and insides.

If you're having issues with audio lag, try setting your native desktop resolution and emulator default resolutions a bit lower (all under 800x600 @ 60Hz), disable all filters (like scanlines), check 'switch refresh rate' and 'switch resolution to fit' in MAME, and turn off triple buffering on all emulators - the last one actually caused control response lag on my first machine.

Thanks on the hints for audio lag, I'll give it a try.

For the bezel, I've been considering doing that. Mainly because the black bezel IS damaged, but on the sides where the black wood sections holds the glass. End result, neither there or anywhere else is visible with the dark smoked glass. It only shows on pictures.

I might leave it as is, at least for now.

Next upgrade definately is the marquee, then I want to replace the coin counter that hasn't been installed yet.

Q: what can we put, except of black, to still be classy as the monitor bezel?

Get a decent generic bezel ordered from gameongrafix.com or something like that. Bezel artwork isn't for everyone, but great on art-heavy cabinets.

BTW thanks for the hints.

Weirdly, the game seems to have been laging more without the "aperture grill" effect, so I placed it back, but all other tricks, added to audio tweaks, fixed the sound issue (at least it seems, I will have to test more games)

I might do custom bezel at the same time as custom marquee, would make the whole thing more like a single piece. I should also add something up the front near the kick plate.
