STERN flipper cabinet switch mounting screws.
« on: June 02, 2010, 06:48:50 pm »
Had a ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON cross my path.  Seems there are problems with the right flipper switch. During play, the right flipper cuts out and dies and then suddenly starts working again for a flip or two...weird.

Upon inspection of the switch, I noticed that there are no round 'contacts' on the flipper blades. Unlike older WILLIAMS games with high current contacts these are not BURNED off.  There ARE NO CONTACTS ON THIS SWITCH FROM THE FACTORY!!   Is that correct?  Talk about trying to save a dime.

All it needed was realignment of the switch blades because when the flipper button was pushed in all the way it 'overwiped' and broke contact.

Upon further inspection, I noticed that the bottom flipper switch mounting screw was loose. In fact, it was broken in half and the the bottom thread part was still in the cabinet.  Turns out this screw is not a #4 or a #6 but a #5?
Until I can locate a correct replacement I used a #6 screw that has had the threads ground down to fit .

Life is good again.
